Question about Birth Control...Ladies & Ev if u're here!

okay so i was on Yasmine for about a year...i actually loved it & had a really good experience with it...i went off of it about three months ago just because it wasn't covered under my ins. and i was trying to save on the expense.... now obviously i wanna get myself back on the pill - we're in a better place financially and I DONT DESIRE A BABY YET!! lol...so here's the deal, while i really liked my experience(no weight gain! yay! lol) i've been hearing bad things about it... i know the two unique ingredients in it can mess with ur potassium & magnesium, which i was aware of, but i've been hearing more negative things about how it REALLY messes with it, and that it's just no good for ya. I actually came across it on the 'worst contraceptive pill list'....now i dont wanna make myself crazy because i know that NO birth control is actually 'good' for you, and yes i did have a good experience with it, but i'm debating if i should switch...also - does anyone know the difference between Yasmine & Yaz??? and please if u've had good experience or your docs have told u good things about others let me know...i wanna go back on mid-july so i have to decide what i wanna do...i DONT want to go on any of those 'u only get ur period 4x a year' brands...and i want a pill...no patch or nuva ring lol...

anyways, any info/help would be appreciated!

i don't know about any others - but i was on Yasmine for almost 6 years and had not one bad side effect to complain about. I miss it terribly, but i guess you get what you pay for when you want a family!

I'm on Yasmin and I love it!!! My dr tried to switch me to yaz because its supposed to shorten your period, but you may also experience intense or minor (depends on the person) breakthrough bleeding for the first 3 or so months- so yes, my period would be shorter, but then I could be out in my cute new white pants and get immense 'breakthrough bleeding' without the slightest idea it was coming! So I have decided to stick with yasmin...

I was on yasmin for two years and went off of it cus I thought it was giving me cellulite. The dr. said I have that because I was getting older, but I liked pretending it was due to the pill. Anyway, I went back on the pill for 2 months so I could skip my period for the wedding. i get sick when i have my period and get daily headaches and didn't want to feel that way on my wedding day and the first few days of my honeymoon. I went another pill-Loestrin- and it was simialr to yasmin in that it was very low estrogen. I think they were similar pills. If u dont want yasmin- just ask for something else that is very very low estrogen- there are a few other alternatives out there that will probably give you a similar experience.

I'm on yaz...so far so good. I don't really have anything terrible to complain about...I COULD blame the pill for my weight gain but I don't think the pill forced the ice cream and cookies into my hands or made me eat like a 400lb man so that's no dice for me....on a plus side my rack is huge!

Re: Question about Birth Control...Ladies & Ev if u're here!

Ive been on Yaz for about three years and Ive tried a number of BC's. This one is the best. Although, they all mess with my anxiety. Recently, though a friend of mine told me she went to her dermatologist to ask about sun spots (or aging spots) on her face. Shes only 34. Her doc told her Yaz has to do with her skin developing these. And since Ive been on Yaz I noticed the same spots over my cheeks. I havent done more research but I started seeing these spots around the same time my friend did (she was also 3 years into taking Yaz)

Is anyone else on Yaz and do you notice any skin discolorations??

( sorry this totally turned into my own question)

this happened to my friend!! she got a crazy skin discoloration from the pill; not sure it was Yaz but it might have been.

i was happy when i was on Yasmin except it gave me stomach issues; my dr. decided after 3 different pills that I should take something that doesn't go through my digestive system. so now its nuvaring; i love the concept and not having to deal with a daily pill but don't love some other things about it. no side effects at all though.

ask your doc about loestrin24fe if you're willing to try something new. its low dose, which can be safer in terms of blood clot risk, etc. and yet still protects like any other pill as long as you take it at/around same time every day. after the initial adjustment (some headaches, spotting, etc), it's been smooth sailin for me. most ppl only get there period for a day or so after a while. i haven't been able to use tampons for like a yr (woo hoo) bc it is so light (sorry if TMI). its been great for me. let me know if you have any qus about it!

Re: Question about Birth Control...Ladies & Ev if u're here!

thanku girls for all the help! i have no idea what i'm going to do lol...i'm terrified of weight gain and that usually seems to be the case w/most bcp's..I think i may go talk to a doctor about it & see what they say...the only complaint i had about Yasmine was that my cheeks had little breakout bumps on them...but my doctor said it could've also been hormone changes since i was right around 21 when i started & he explained that ur hormones shift every 7yrs. or so. ANYWAYS, i dont know - but please keep the info coming! any experiences good/bad/inbetween will be of help! i have about 3weeks to decide lol..

I have been on Yasmin for 7 years and had no bad side effects at all. My doctor told me about Yaz just because it's new, but he said if I have not had any problems with Yasmin, why switch now. I have been thinking about switching, but I'm not sure if I will. I will probably be off the pill in 2 years, so I probably won't switch.

I'm actually afraid to be off the pill since I have been on it for so long. I'm afraid of what will happen to my mood swings and that time. I remember the bad cramps and I don't want them back!!!

I'm on LoEstrin 24 Fe. Love it and have nothing bad to say about it. Also, I only pay for it about sometimes. My doctor gives me at least 3 months of samples and then a prescription which helps offset the expense.
