Re: question about name change
You need your license. Ours was waiting for us when we got home from our HM. We got married 11/14 and the license is postmarked 11/24.

Do you have a copy of your marriage license?
Fortunately, you're not going abroad because if you were going out of the country, you would definitely have a problem because there's no way you'd get a passport back in time.
I'm worried about you having a picture ID in time... we got our marriage license in Brooklyn and our wedding was 7/18 and our marriage certificate was issued on 8/13 (we didn't get it in the mail for a few days after that!). I was able to get a copy in person at the clerk's office on 8/14 (I had to pay for an extra certified copy).
I didn't get a NY driver's license bc we moved, but my new driver's license took almost a month to get in the mail so I was just carrying a card around with no picture. But you need a photo ID to fly... do you have credit cards you can change now so at least you'll be able to show that? What about another issued photo ID? You're basically going to have to prove to TSA that you are the person on your tickets, and they want a government-issued photo ID with your name on it.
Otherwise I'd consider changing the tickets to your maiden name if possible. When in February are you going?

Our marriage licence took 8 weeks to arrive- After you go to DMV you still have to wait for them to mail the photo ID to you. You may have a problem if your marriage licence takes as long as mine did to arrive. I am in the Bronx.

I would go down to the city clerk and get a copy of your marriage certiicate basically tomorrow - then go right to the DMV and see what they can do - when in february is your HM? They also might let you fly if you have a picture ID with your old name on it and your temporary driver's license and marriage certificate but I don't know. . you should be able to ask TSA (transporation folks at the airport) what alternative ID they take - I have flown w/o ID before but they practically strip searched me and it was on a return trip ( I lost my id while i was away)

Where did you apply for your license? I am in Queens but we applied in Nassau and had our license within a week of the wedding. Our wedding was Oct. 23 and the license was postmarked, no joke, Oct. 26.

Re: question about name change
We applied in Queens for our marriage license. Its not going to be a problem as long as I have my marriage license...However there is no way of knowing when I am going to get it. It seems like the girls in nassau got their licenses quicker the the girls in the city

Re: question about name change
We had ours by the time we got back from the HM, got married on 1/2 and got back on 1/9, so less than a week for them to send it, the officiant said it was going to take 6 weeks, we filed in nassau

Re: question about name change
Mine came in like a week and a half, but have I done a damn thing with it yet? Nope I'm hoping maybe, MAYBE, I can sneak a half day next Friday to at least go to SS, but I'm so busy now it's hard. And DH is blackmailing me saying that he doesn't want to book our HM until my name is officially changed. Ugh.
