Question about Thank you's ....

Question about Thank you's ....

A bride on the BHB board asked this question & now I'm curious ....

How long did you wait (or did you) to send thank you's for gifts that came in before the wedding?

I was planning on sending them out soon, as they were wedding gifts, but now it seems as though I should not have waited so long ... was this a breach of etiquette?

I don't know but the people who sent gifts that weren't coming to the wedding,we sent some thank-you's right away & the ones that came right before the wedding ( a week or two) we mailed after the wedding.

I sent them early to get the off the to-do list, and to let the giver know that they were delivered ok (since nearly all gifts were shipped to me since I live out-of-state.) I don't think its absolutely required! I think that if you send them soon, you are fine.

Any gifts/checks that I got before the wedding, I sent out my thank yous right away. I thought I might send a picture thank you but thought I also might forget, good thing I did, since I am STILL waiting for my thank you pictures, grrrr.

I meant to get them out before the wedding but never got around to it. I sent them out with the rest of the Thank You's, when our pictures were in. I don't think its such a big deal to send it out later, plus I figured they'd want to see a picture since they couldn't make the 'big day'.

I don't really think it's a breach of ettiquette not to send them before the wedding. You have a certain amount of time that is acceptable to send TY's for wedding gifts, I think 3 months or so is customary. Your friends and family that sent gift early know that you had your hands full with last minute preperations. I wouldn't worry about it.

I had read that you should send them right away if it is more than a month before the wedding when the gift was rec'd. I planned on doing that and of course I didn't. I am sending them with the rest of my picture thank you's! I have a week before I hit the 3-month mark..time goes so fast and I still have a bunch to write!

we are sending all our TY's at once. Figured the people who couldn't be there would like to see a pic of us.

I too was waiting for my photos to send thank you's to the people who sent me gifts before the wedding. My pictures got delayed because of the holidays and now I regret not sending regular thank you's before even though I did call them right away.

I will make sure to send everyone a photo once I get them.

I sent them as soon as I got them. There were a few that came days before and I waited and did them with the other guests who did attend. There were also a few people who did not attend whom I wanted to have a photo TY card. Those I actually sent two ty cards to some people.
