Question about Wedding Gifts

Did you find that most people gave you money at your wedding? Or did you get a bunch of wedding gifts?

I have gotten some real nice wedding gifts already from people coming and not coming to the wedding...however, there are things off my registry that I never got and I was wondering if you found people got you more gifts then you thought. I know this is common in a lot of areas but i did not think in New York...not that it really matters to me, i can use both!

TIA!

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

We got 99% money. We did receive 1 gift but everyone else either gave us a check or cash in the envelope.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

my husband is from out of town so i was really worried about the gift thing especially after we received on vegetable bowl from his great aunt and uncle (under $100) so I cleared my registries so therewas nothing on it. Would I have been better off leaving some things on? Not sure. I did get some pretty low dollar amounts from his family because they are not from NY but it worked out in the end. I am happier with the money than all the gifts. We received a couple gifts but nothing significant.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

We received one actual gift at the wedding...a Waterford cake plate, server and knife. The rest were cash gifts.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

I wish I would have cleared my registry, because it gave my hubby's siblings a chance to be really cheap. In between five of them I revceive pots and pans and a colener that I already got at my shower. When I went to return them I got back 100 dollars and nothing for the colander it was a promo. So after all the years of giving them lavish gifts from the heart. Five of them chip in for this. I am not trying to be greedy, I just figure if I went to my Brother or Sister in laws wedding I would give a nice gift (money wise!!) I guess I will be changing that now!!

Oh and by the way this is not the first time! At my shower his two sister bought me a sheet set that was 15.99 on sale. His mother gave me the same gift!!

ETS: Most people gave money as gifts!

We were given a bunch of gifts...mostly my china, which was great because I didn't get much of it at my shower, but the majority gave us money.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

We received mostly money, but DH's relatives from Poland brought us some Polish crystal (a bowl, a plate, and wine glasses), his uncle who lives in China brought us silk filled comforters and mother of pearl salt and pepper shakers. My out of state relatives bought some things from our registry, we got a Lenox picture frame and one of the best wedding gifts was from my mom's cousin. Aside from his store bought gift, he brought us a hand crocheted bedspread that was made by my great-grandmother. He lives in what was once the family home and decided that DH and I needed to have a family heirloom.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

We got 1 gift...the rest money. This gift is from Conrads in the city...it is a big chrystal thing...it kinda looks like a huge icecream dish...but we think its a vase. We will either bring it back or give it away.

Re: Question about Wedding Gifts

We got mostly money but actually got some great and unique gifts!
We got a patio set, our lenox s & P shakers, a waterford vase, crystal candle holder, Tivo with 6 months services from the girlfriends of our GMs, some misc vases/frames etc, from some OOT guests, and my DH favorite a kegarator from our GMs.
I was happy with the gifts we got (except from one guest who was really cheap) and the amount of $$$!
