Original post by JimmysBride

and did you use a DOC or not?? A post I read on BHB has me wondering...

I did not have a DOC and I got most, not all, of my must-take pics.

I did have a DOC and I didn't get all of my must-takes - not sure what the connection is, if any.

The reason I didn't get all of my must-takes was because the day we got married there was a mini-monsoon. It was impossible to take any pictures outside and a lot of our must-takes were to be taken at the Oakdale Arboretum.

Just a point vis a vis the DOC - I hired one 3 weeks before the wedding because I planned 100% of the wedding myself and knew I wouldn't be able to make sure everything ran smoothly on the day. My sister was my MOH, but her two young daughters were my FG's, so she spent the whole day watching them. My parents live 3,500 miles away and had no idea who any of my vendors were or what they were supposed to do, so I had to have another go-to person. I felt it was very indulgent of me to get a DOC, and she didn't really have a huge amount to take care of on our day, but I was thrilled with what she did take care of and how she carried out her responsibilites (including making sure our picture list was followed as much as possible).

I had a DOC, and had all my must take pictures taken as well - but one had nothing to do with the other.
I gave my photographers the list of pics i wanted and they followed it.

I agree with the previous poster who said the DOC is there to make sure you don't have to deal with anything the day of - none of the payments or rounding up of gifts, cards, people etc..
We had a few moments where flowers didnt' arrive on time, we left something at the hotel.. etc. and she took care of it all.
Although i planned the entire day, she was there to take care of anything that came up during the day. IMO she was a lifesaver and well worth it. By the end of the day, i was rather champagne tipsy and i'm sure i would've lost 1/2 the envelopes if i had to keep track of it all!

But she had nothing do to with getting the right pictures taken

No DOC and I didn't make a 'list' so no, I didn't get all my Must Takes done.

ditto

I'm really annoyed at myself for this

No Doc and we didn't get all of our must take pics. But not the fault of the photographer. Because the girl I hired to do our hair never showed up in the morning, we were 2 hours behind schedule. However, we are meeting with the photog wednesday night and he said he got about 800 pictures. So we'll see.

I had a DOC but she had nothing to do with pics. And no, I did not get all of my must takes.

I notice a lot of brides getting DOCs now. I am sure they are great, but my attitude (no flames...just my opinion!) is that this wedding is your baby. You work on it so long, know how you want everything...why pass it off to someone the day of AND spend all that money? I guess if you really do not want to be bothered with any questions or deliveries (flowers, etc) then great...but I don't know. It wasn't for me.

No flames at all, but actually, this was just my problem! Everything that went wrong had to be brought to my attention, because I was the only one who knew what was supposed to be happening. Honestly, it really took away from my ability to relax and enjoy my day. I'd go back and hire a DOC if I had the ability to do it again, no questions.

And no, I didn't get all my 'must-take' shots. Not even close. I had a relatively small list, and close to a third of the shots I wanted were missing. This is part of the reason why I'd get a DOC.

No flames taken! I guess it's just a personal decision, having a lot to do with budget and who the vendors
are. I never felt bothered w/questions or overwhelmed that day.

I didn't make a list but there were some things I told them at the last minute. They got most, but not all of them. They got the more important stuff. I asked for pictures of some cocktail stations and ice carvings in case I didn't get to see them. They only got one out of 2 ice carvings. No biggie. They got so many photos! I didn't have a DOC but there were so many people atttending to me that I would not have wanted anyone else to wait on me!

I understand what you mean about yout wedding being yout baby.... but that is why I did want a DOC. I spent soooo much time planning and organizing, making lists and checking details that on my day, I just wanted everything to run smoothly.... I didn't want to know about one of my vendors being late, or the cake not being what I wanted, or my menus not being put out... I just wanted to enjoy my day. I hired Michelle Nocella from Defining moments and it was the best wedding decision I made. She lietrally covered every detail you could imagine... I guess the other thing was that I was pretty anal and could have never checked on all the things I had requested for the day.
My mom said she wouldn't think of having another wedding without a DOC and one of my bridesmaids just hired my DOC for her wedding.
I guess it is just preference.
