Question for 11/14/02

OK, I'll start this one!

For those on a budget:

What is the absolute, one necessity that you MUST splurge on...regardless of how much you need to save?? (i.e. hair, nails, nights out, etc.)

I would say getting my hair highlighted. It's just something that I got hooked on and I couldn't imagine NOT doing it - let alone dealing with roots!

Re: Question for 10/14/02

This is hard for me to answer b/c I feel like I do so little for myself these days! I could say a splurge is buying underwear that fits properly, but that's also a necessity, isn't it?? LOL.

If we are talking strictly splurges, than I'd say it's a tie between my once-a-month pedicure and my once-a-month dye job so that I don't have to look at my gray!

I'm with Claud in that I don't spend too much on myself (generally) but I do splurge on my hair cuts. I found a stylist I love thats a bit pricey but would NEVER let anyone else take scissors to my hair.

I also must get my nails done every two weeks. It's the one thing I do that is completely for myself.

I love to shop, but for shoes, so the absolute must for me are:

S-H-O-E-S!!!!!

My hair - I have to at least get my hair re-braided at least every 2 months so its not too bad!!!

In the summer my toes- must get my toes decorated

Treating myself to massages, not often

Taking hubby out, dinner, brunch etc

Books...my major weakness

Work out clothes...Lord help me...3 drawers of them going now

Vacation...I love to travel...maybe that is why we do not see any children in the near future LOL

Food

I hate to buy cheap cuts of meat or generic brands if I know (after trying them once) they are really not as tasty as the name brand. I will splurge on good fruit and produce. And especially when baking, or cooking a good meal - top quality ingredients - real vanilla, not imitation.

While we're really budgeting right now, we splurge by having one meal a week at a restaurant, though we still watch our dollars on what we order and where we go - it's just nice to be served and be able to focus on each other - a date night.

When I was 'poor' I really didnt splurge on anything...I worked a lot just to get by and finish school. So there was literally NO money to splurge on anything. But since graduating I have never (knock wood) been forced to be so tight with money...when Im trying to save on stuff I will not go shopping or go out drinking but there is always a little money for a dye job and manicure when necessary :D But my real problem is time.....do you girls get your hair done during the weekend? It takes all day to get my hair done on a Saturday but I dont want to take off of work to have it done either!

My fill in & pedicure every 2 weeks!! She is more expensive then most, BUT WELL WORTH it!! It is nice to spend 2 hours every 2 weeks on me things & not cleaning!!

I would guess my nails- but I dont know how long htat will last w/ the little one on the way.
Came thisclose yesterday to telling the gals to take off all the wraps and leave my nails bare- problem is they are a bit thin...oh well- so I had a new set put on.
I figure this splurge every 2 weeks is worth it..forces me to sit still for something that is just for me...and it makes me feel a bit more polished and professional

Toes too= if I can muster it I get a spa pedicure. Costs $35 but it is the only thing that makes my pregnant ankels kinda feel less bloated!

Re: Question for 10/14/02

Stef - I usually get my hair colored after work - Thursday the salon has late hours and I get early on Fridays - so usually one of those days.

I get my hair cut in NJ so I usually go first thing on a Saturday morning. If it's just me I am home by 11 and have the rest of the day and if I go with my sister and other gf, we make a day of it.

Stef,

what do you get done to your hair?

I get hi and lo lights and usually a cut and blow-out.

I go after work sometimes but I actually prefer a weekend appointment. I enjoy feeling pampered and not rushed.

All in all, it probably takes about 2 hours? She's pretty quick!
