DH is an English teacher, he still has an Initial Certificate and he will be done with his masters by December of this year (queens college didn't offer enough classes per semester so this has been dragging on for a few yrs). His Initial certificate is due to expire in August, but he won't be finished with the Masters until December and will then file for the Professional Certification.
He is getting all paranoid that he is going to lose his job. Should be contact the certification office and file an extension? He is afraid that by doing this they may deny him and he will be jobless. Again, he is sooo paranoid. I told him if he's that worried to just file an extension and claim that he didn't get a teaching job right away and couldnt afford to start his masters right away after getting his BA...which is the actual truth....
My question is, what would you do? File for the extension and pray they accept it? or just wing it and hope they don't catch it, then file in december for the professional certificate? I appreciate any help....he's driving me crazy and making me really nervous.

Re: question for NYC Certified teachers....
I would file for an extension ASAP!!! There's no point in chancing it. Risking a job now, with all of the teachers being cut in school, is a HUGE risk!

I would definitely file for the extension. On top of risking his job, I would be worried that he would be denied the professional certificate if his initial is expired. I would guess that they will approve the extension without an issue.

Edited that I didnt see his initial expires in August.
DEFINITELY file an extension. His school will not be able to keep him in September without the new certificate or an extension.

Definitely get the extension -- it's worth the $$ to file for it and it'll carry him until he has his Masters with no break in his certification. And make it easy to apply for his permanent certification.

Thanks girls, thats what I figured, they'll just give him the extension, I don't know why he thinks they'll deny him for an extension if he's already registered for the classes that will end in December.
Thanks for ur quick responses, I really appreciate it!!! I am def making him file ASAP!!!

Re: question for NYC Certified teachers....
I filed for an extension when I has trouble getting into grad programs for Speech-Path.....to get my extension I had to just show that I was making the effort to complete a masters. I sent them copies of my non-matriculated transcripts showing I was taking classes. If he sends a schedule of classes he will be taking it should be fine good luck!
