Is it in poor tast when you show up to a wedding wearing a dress in a similar color as the bridesmaids? (wheather you planned it or not)

Re: question for you ladies..
if i knew the bm dress color then I probably would avoid it. But most guests don't know that, so i can't see how you could fault someone for that. I try not to get too dressed up for a wedding since a lot of BM dresses aren't as fancy as they used to be ya know? Meaning, I wouldn't wear a bm dress from a wedding i was in, to someone else's wedding as a guest.

It can't be poor taste if you have no idea what color the BM dresses are. Even if you did know, that really shouldn't have any bearing. Just don't wear the same dress.
It would be poor taste if you wore white, diamond white, or ivory.

I agree that there's really no way to even know what the planned color even is, so how can anyone mind if someone shows up in that color

Re: question for you ladies..
No but someone asked me what color my BM were wearing to make sure she wasnt in the same color as the BM! And it turns out she had a wine colored dress but wasnt going to wear and I I was like nooooo just wear the dress! I did not care but she wouldnt listen and wore navy instead!

I don't think anyone can be blamed for showing up in the same color/dress if they didn't know about it. Not everyone is going to know what the BP is doing if they aren't close to the couple.
I had a girl who is going out with one of the GM. She actually asked me about the colors before she bought a dress. I thought that was nice. She also wanted a green dress to match his vest. I was worried that it would look like my BM dress. I actually B!tched a bit about it, b/c she would be sitting at the table with the BP b/c she was his date. I didn't want people to think she was apart of the BP. I went a little nutty for a minute, but then I just realized I didn't care and I can't tell people what to wear. She wound up wearing black anyway lol

I don't think so - how are you supposed to know what color the bridal party is wearing.

I really don't think it should matter. I know some brides (and bridesmaids) make a big deal about this, but I think it's just silly. Who cares? Now if you were to go out and purchase the very same dress - - that's another story

I had a friend at MY wedding plan it! lol. I loved her dress, it was a short little red dress and sooo cute. I told her how pretty she was at the wedding and then laughed about how perfectly she matched my BMs. She was like 'I know, that's why I wore it.' I soooo did not get upset tho. Who cares? It looked nothing like their dresses, just the same color. But I thought it was still pretty comical that she purposely did it to blend.

Re: question for you ladies..
I agree with everyone here. If I know the bride I ask her in advance and then avoid the color but if I don't then I don't worry about it. Usually I wear black dresses to weddings these days anyway and that's a safe color most of the time!

Re: question for you ladies..
thank ladies!!! The reason I ask is that I had already chose what dress I will be wearing and I plan on attending the church where I will obviously see the bridesmaids. I will play it by ear.

Re: question for you ladies..
my SIL did this. same exact color - and she knew the color because her daughter was in the bridal party!
I really didnt care BUT it was the first thing that MANY people said to me AT the wedding, I mean even DH's friends who are GUYS and know NOTHING said it to me and a few people asked if she was the MOH!?!?! b/c she had the same color but different dress!
its funny now, I just wish I could know WHY she did it?!

yeah maybe. What's even weirder is that she was a 'B-List invite'. So she knew that she was being invited only after getting an idea of my final count. (she didn't mind tho - she's an old friend from high school, so she really hadn't expected to be invited anyway). But that just makes it all the more funny to me!!
