Question if anyone has been to Mystic.

DH and I are planning a weekend getaway for our anniversary. I hope to be starting a new job and the 10 day trip to Europe has to wait 'til I get vacation time. Boo. So that means a weekend trip to Mystic / Foxwoods. I am actually very excited.

We plan to stay at the Hyatt which looks AMAZING! The only thing we need is restaurant recs and the best way to get there.

I looked at ferry information. I see that there is one that leaves from Port Jeff and one from Orient. The one from Orient looks very direct and takes you right there. However, is there one from Port Jeff that takes you to Mystic???????

So if any of you have gone to Mystic, what is the best way to get there and what places should we go to eat at? Thanks in advance!

i went to Mystic seaport when i was a kid, & havent been back since - cant really help you on the area (restaurants and what not)..
But as for the ferry, Port Jeff takes you to Bridgeport and then you have to drive the rest of the way to Mystic. Orient is more direct...

Port Jeff takes you to Bridgeport, which is still a ways a way. Orient takes you to New London which is about 10 minutes from Mystic.

(My ex lives right around there and I went to college in Stony Brook so I consider myself an expert in ferries to Connecticut!)

There are lots of places to eat ... try Steak Loft or Go Fish.

ETA the best part of Mystic is walking around the little town ... DH and I went there together when we were first dating and had a blast. Also check out the aquarium if you're into that stuff, as well as Old Mystick Village.

Orient Point ferry lets you out closer, but you have to drive further out east. So it just depends where you want to drive - do you want to drive out to Orient Point, or do you want to drive to Port Jeff and do your driving in CT

If you like massages, make appointments at the Spa at Norwich Inn, which is right by Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun.

For dinner or lunch I like the Seamans Inne. My friends and I have gone there a couple of times for our girls weekends (2 of them live in CT). We usually stay at the Marriott because it has a great Elizabeth Arden spa on premises so I don't know about the Hyatt there.

Traffic up on I-95 can be a bit of a nightmare so depending on when you plan to go, you might be better off taking the ferry from Orient.

We drove it took us 3 hrs & it was a nice drive. It was in August & i was suprised we didnt hit traffic at all. We ate at the amazing Steak place in Foxwoods. It was soooo good we also ate in Mystic at S&P Oyster Company. It was delicious & we ate outside right on the water. So nice. The seaport was great & we did the historic museum of all the boats & how Mystic came about. etc. We stayed at the Hyatt also & then at night we went to Foxwoods & gambles & had fun fun. We loved it.
