My new in-laws' gift to us was a surprise. I had spoken with the other SILs and figured they'd give us the same amount they all got, but they actually gave us 3 times more than the others. When we asked they said b/c those weddings were almost 10 years ago and times have changed - things are more expensive, etc. We are so grateful, but my question is this - my SILs will definitely be asking me how much they gave us - I don't want to cause trouble - should I just lie and tell them we got the same amount they all did?
That's my instinct - its just that I'm really close to some of the SILs and hate lying to them but don't want to cause a commotion in the family.
Thanks!

Re: Question re: Family Gifts
do you think your sil will ask you how much? tell her to ask her your husband or tell her 'the same as you got ' or something
its great you got more $$ - try to let your dh handle it though- they should not put you on the spot like that

Well, I would not lie, b/c if they found out the truth it could really hurt your relationship.
Tell them you cant remember off hand, and have your DH deal with it

Re: Question re: Family Gifts
That was very nice of them!
Did you ask the SIL's what they received? If so then you should expect that they may ask you what you received and expect an answer. But I would also try to just say you don't remember & change the subject. but if that doesnt work let your DH handle it!

Re: Question re: Family Gifts
i would just say 'oh, DH handled that check, I dont remember exactly. Ask him.' Let him deal with that one! If you are really close with them though, and the truth comes out, they should not get mad at you, you didnt ask for that much!

Re: Question re: Family Gifts
Thanks everyone - I also had DH ask his mom if it needs to be kept secret - she said no, so I think if she does ask I'll just tell the truth. I don't want to ruin the relationship with SIL since we've gotten close and often confide in each other complaining about MIL.
