Question re: Negatives

Hi girls. I am a recent newlywed. It's good to be over here!

Here is my question. I was just wondering if anyone knows whether or not you can have more pictures made from the negatives when you get them back. Our photographer told us after one year we get to keep the negatives. Can we just take them (the negatives) to Genovese or a film shop and have more pictures made since the negatives now belong to us?? Thanks.

Denise, I don't know the answer to your question, but welcome to married life!

Thank you. I know it might sound like a pretty dumb question, if we have the negatives then.... But I am afraid that there will still be copyright restrictions, that is really my question. Anyone??

Re: Question re: Negatives

If you've bought or been given the negatives then that should include the rights to reprint them. However, depending on the format of the camera used you may not be able to just go to CVS. If they are 35mm you could, but if the photographer used a large format camera then you would have to take them to a professional photo developer and it's more costly.

Best option is to just confirm with your photographer that there are no restrictions.

Thank you, I will do that the next time I talk to him.

All you need are the negatives---and yes you have to go to a professional lab--sounds worse than it is-- they are in many towns just look in the phone book-- it is much cheaper than the photogrpaher reprints but obviously abit more than a drug store-- this is what we have been planning to do-- I finally went thru all the negatives but dont want the added expense right now!!!-
