Question..what would you do?

So im throwing DH a Birthday Party on Jan 30th (his bday is Jan 31st) just a little get together at our apt. Not really a surprise party, cuz he will be home when people show up, but more like a surprise what is everyone doing here!! so im callling people sending out emails to invite people, and I invited FIL laura, and his aunt and uncle. (his dad has never been to our apt yet) they live in jersey. so i thought this would be a great time to get them to come over! his dad and aunt...do not like to drive to NY especially at night and BIL and his wife are coming so they can hitch a ride with them!! Perfect right...oh not so perfect cuz now do I invite his Mom??

His parents are divorced and Def DO NOT get along! they dont speak, will not s-u-c-k it up even for their kids sake (more of his mom avoids speaking to his dad at all costs) our RH dinner she gave DH an evelope with a bill for his half in paying instead of calling him to let him know whats going on!! FIL was pissed!
anywho! i really want his dad to see our place! concidering we are moving out soon! and of course i wanna see laura so i can just hug and squeeze her!

so what do i do? they wouldnt even s-u-c-k it up for our weddings! MIL refused to walk down the aisle with him at our wedding and at BILs wedding!
our apt is tiny or quaint as MIL would describe it! (yeah our apt is quaint too! ugh) so its not like they can avoid each other.

any pointers on what i should do??!

Re: Question..what would you do?

ooh this is a hard one - is she the type of mother who is really into b-days and such. . if you invite her with letting her know that he is there would she day no but feel included? like say - this is the situation I would love to have you there too but know this is uncomfortable for you so I'll leave it up to you..

or is there a way you could do something smaller with her the next day - like a brunch or something -

I am divorced child so I know how uncomfortable it is, if I were you i would not invite mom, youcan go over there another day ...its not fun when you add stress slike that so why force it

I say invite her. U have to extend the invite. But let her know that his dad will be there. That way its up to her if she wants to show up & celebrate the birth of her son!

Yep. My BFF was in the same situation for her DH's 30th. They hate each other but made it work...so give it a go. We even saw them TALK at the end of the night!

As a child of divorced parents, I never leave anyone out. I say invite both & let them make the decision. Be up front & let them know the other will be there. Just a suggestion. I know it's so hard.

I would invite both but give the warning upon invitation...the other parent will be there and this day is not about you. If they're comfortable, let them come. If they're going to cause problems, stay home!
