I want to make a pot roast but its just a pound of meat. Most recipes call for 4lbs. We would never finish 4 lbs, so i always buy smaller. I dont know what to do? I was going to use the slow cooker, but iam not sure now? Has any one made a small pot roast and if you did can you tell me what ingredients to put in please?? Thank you so much!

Re: Quick Question about pot roast?
when i do a pot roast in the slow cooker i always follow my grandmother's 'recipe' basically, first brown the outside of the roast in a pan then move it to the slow cooker. cover it with water and add a packet of onion soup mix. once it's all cooked, you can make a gravy from all the juice. i don't think it will matter what size roast you have! hope this helps! we always eat it over rice and it's so good!

Re: Quick Question about pot roast?
I actually pour a can of coke over a 4 pound roast to make it tender- you should still be able to do this- I would still cook it for at least 4 hours- it does take some time to get tender
other ways to make it- you can rub it down with dry onion soup mix... or put a can of cream of mushroom soup over it

i'd say 2-3 hours. will you be home while you're doing it? if so, i'd just check it after 2 hours and see where it's at. my grandmother always tells me the meat should fall apart easily and of course not be red! good luck!

not dumb at all. it doesnt have to be completely- but at least halfway up or more- the liquid will bubble up and will steam the top portion hth

Re: Quick Question about pot roast?
I made it last night with the pressure cooker last night...good flavor bad choice of meat...make sure you buy chuck roast! i bought eye round roast and the meat was still tough even from the pressure cooker .
I eyeballed everything...
I marinated it over night with
onions red wine a package or brown gravy olive oil lemon juice salt pepper
Then I browned it on all sides with some oil then I added beef broth more wine fresh onions, salt pepper, garlic powder... I also cut slits and stuffed garlic in the meat
