random silly qustion..how do u clean a toaster oven..

sorry if im a dummy..but u know when it gets crumbs on the bottom...i usually just pick it up and empty it ovr the trash but can i use something wet to really get inside?

I never had a toaster oven until I moved in with DH a year & a half ago so I've always left it to him... and when I saw him putting a piece of aluminum foil at the bottom, I thought he was nuts and that it was a safety hazard but it actually works lol. He covers the bottom of the toaster oven with it and it catches all the crumbs and then he just throws it out when necessary. He learned this from his mom. lol.

The one I have, you can remove the part you put the bread on (don't know what it's called ) and I use a brillo pad to clean it

I agree w/ the aluminum foil thing...that way you just take it out and throw it away. My mom lines everything in aluminum foil.

There should either be a latch to drop down the bottom so it can be cleaned or like mine, the bottom tray actually pulls out which I just discovered the other day and was ecstatic LOL

I would think there would be somehow to remove that bottom tray... Look around... if not, the foil trick sounds good!

mine has a tray that slides out, I am sure it has something that makes cleaning easier

Mine too.. I would love to get in between the ridges and scrub the hell out of it..

Ours has a tray that catches crumbs and you just pull it out to empty it.

What I don't know how to clean is all the grease splatters that make the stainless steel start looking like it's rusty (but it's burnt, dried grease).

wouldn't that scratch it. I would test it first. You need a cleaner that cuts the grease.

I might soak it with powder dish detergent.

Nope...my mom has done it for years and now I told DH to do it and our cusinart oven looks brand new.
