Out of curiousity I was wondering if anyone knows how much it costs to buy new kitchen cabinets, like 42 inch with crown molding - just curious b/c on home improvement shows they usually say about 10K and i was wondering how accurate that is....i'm bored

Re: Re-modeling question
not that I have any idea how much it would cost but is that the price to have the work done or just materials to do it yourself (well DH)

Re: Re-modeling question
Hmm it depends...custom cabinets? Or the home depot one? Are you moving a sink (you would have to move plumbing then)....are you buying new appliances? What type of counter top...granite or regular? Things can really add up!

i just meant for regular cabinets that you could buy i guess at home depot - nothing crazy that is custom....and and no changing things around - just replacing the old with new.....

Re: Re-modeling question
at home depot you could spend $3 to 5 thousand if your not getting customized that is the price for in stock. now the crown molding will be a little more. dh and I priced for the home we just built. now we do live in pa. but I am sure the prices are about the same.

Hey DH and I are just finishing our kitchen. The best quote we got for cabinets that would last us a while( not the top brand bt not crappy at all) was $12,500. That is just the doors without granite or appliances.
oh the kitchen is 8x13 in reference to the length of the cabinets needed.

Re: Re-modeling question
I asked DH who is a contractor. He said it really depends on what type of cabinets you want and how big the kitchen is. If you have this info let me know and he can give you an estimate.

I would say this is about accurate, of course it depends on the size of the kitchen and what grade of cabinets you get but pretty nice cabinets with crown molding would probably cost you between 8 and 10K. You also have to add to that the installation prices and counter top. If you get a granite counter top you have to hire a separate guy to install it, someone that specializes in granite cutting.

Re: Re-modeling question
It would be accurate in terms of the cabinets, the labor is what adds up.

Re: Re-modeling question
My parents did new cabinets but my brother installed them and he made a custom modeling so labor was free. Cost them about 8,000 just for the cabinets.

that is true - i guess in this hypothetical situation we wouldn't need labor if we were ever to re-do cabinets my dad and DH could install them - my dad knows how to do it

Re: Re-modeling question
This is a quote from my dad. You would probably need to replace the countertop as well...as I dont think you can rip the old one off and salvage it....
It is roughly $700/LF for both upper and lower cabinets - furnished and installed.
Granite counters are approx. $170/LF whereas formica counters are approx. $75/LF.
LF = Linear Foot
