Re-post from Parenting...need decorating advice:

We are now in the process of actually making the decisions on Pauls mural, room color and fabrics. I have been searching high and low for a crib set that fits with the mural theme. It's going to be a 'garden' type theme with trees, possibly a tree house, rope swing, see-saw, birdbath, etc. Little creatures scattered about. The wall colors would likely be either a linen white or an ice blue. This is an example pic, but not w/the tea party...

I have a 'vision' for the linens and fabrics, but I am coming up short here, so I need opinions on my creative concept.

I have fallen in *love* with the baby toile fabric. It is a country scene, with children on a see-saw, lots of trees, etc. I echos the design for the mural and I think I want this for the windows and bedding in blue:

To add interest, I would include a blue ticking fabric as an accent trim:

Along with blue, sage and pale yellow gingham:

I LOVE this quilt:

DO you think this will work in the room???

Are you going for a very formal room Claud? I love the toile fabrics, they are very 'in' right now and I think are really cute. But I think of them as very formal, and a bit on the femine side. JMO of course. I LOVE the mural idea! Tree swings, see-saws, are just great! I love the strip fabric also. The blue in it is beautiful for a little boys room. So many decisions!

Not necessarily 'formal' for the room, but I don't want anything that's very 'cutesy - baby' either.

I think that you have to see the toile in person, but it doesn't strike me as feminine at all! I am concerned that there would be too much blue, so the alternative is to use the toile in sage green and have the blue ticking/gingham as accents:

I love that mural! Are you painting that yourself??

I think the fabric choices really depend on the size of Pauls room. For example, if the room is small and that mural will be in the same view as the fabrics - I think its too much going on and will look overly busy as well as distracting from the mural. In that case, I would select one of the less dominant colors from the mural and use solid fabrics.

But if the room is massive, having a more visually interesting fabric (s) will make the room seem more cozy.

I like the green toile much better and when I look at that mural, I see the tree (green) more than the blue sky. I like the blue accents (if you think the green toile and blue stripes go together) but to me my eye is drawn to green and I like the toile in green much better. I like that you are not doing a cutesy room since kids grow up so fast too.

Hmmm...Stef, good points. Paul's room is large, and furniture will be minimal. I want to maximize the space for him to play. The tallest piece of furniture will be on an opposite wall from the focal point of the mural (which will be in a corner, similar to the pic), so they shouldn't visually interfere with one another.

Also, the actual mural won't be as large/dominant in the room...I am planning on something similar regarding the tree, but the grass will not be as substantial. Also, the tortoise and the hare won't be in the mural....just some dragonflys, birds, bees, a select few flowers, etc.

To me, the toile is not a very dominant pattern. When I've seen it in person, the 'activity' in the pattern seems to blend into the background almost forcing you to move closer for a better look. Maybe it's just me?

Are you painting the mural yourself? That is really beautiful!

My friend did an awesome mural in her room that was like a huge garden with giant blades of grass and bees, etc.. very cool - i wish i could do that :D

Ha! I wish I had the talent to paint like that! No, we are working with someone to paint the mural for us....thanks for the compliments. I will post pics once it's done, so everyone can see how it came out.

I LOVE toile, but, since it is a little scene itself, I think it would be too much going on, but that's JMO. How about something like this?

It's also available in blue or yellow on the JcPenney site.
Edited to add, is there carpet? If so, what color?

I love the mural & the changes you are planning to make to it sound really great. I agree that based on that pic green would be your main color. I do not think toile would be good as your primary fabric, but I love it as a secondary-trim, pillows, and the like. I think the gingham is a great choice for a baby's crib. As he grows up he bedding needs will change & you can incorporate more mature fabrics at the time. I think you are on the right track & I love your ideas!

Claud, I like your ideas! What a lucky baby!!

Each piece of the room is nice, but put together, I think that you have too many focal elements.

I love the mural idea, and agree with someone above...my eyes are focusing on the green, not blue. I think that the green will be a better color to work off.

Keep us posted! I'm interested to see the work in progress.
