Re: Real Christmas Trees
As long as you keep it watered and buy a good tree to start out with, you can keep it for over a month without problems.
This weekend is a big tree buying one so you are not alone. Im getting my tree next week.

Re: Real Christmas Trees
We get a real tree every year, and usually buy it early, and have never had one die. Make sure you water it religiously, otherwise it WILL die. A tree buying hint ~ if you bend a small branch and it springs back, it's well hydrated and will probably last. If you bend it and it snaps, it's probably not the best tree to get. I just love the smell of a real tree. Enjoy!

Re: Real Christmas Trees
We always get ours early, but it's pretty dried out by New Year's. I once read somewhere that you should put some sugar in with the water as soon as you bring the tree home, but the one year I tried it the tree dried out even earlier!
Also, just make sure they cut off a little of the bottom once you pick yours out :)

Re: Real Christmas Trees
Not to intrude on the NEWLYWEDS board, but we had a similar post to this on the brides board--we used to get our tree from a farm and cut it and down and those last forever if you take care of it, but recently we have gotten our trees from HOME DEPOT and they lasted pretty long as well---GOOD LUCKY!! REAL TREES RULE!!

Re: Real Christmas Trees
Make sure when you are ready to put the tree up, cut a small piece off the bottom of the tree, so it is fresh, and when you water it, it will soak it up. Make sure you water it evryday, it drinks a lot of water.

Re: Real Christmas Trees
We went and cut down our tree the friday after Thanksgiving and it smells wonderful Dont worry about it dying before Christmas, we cut one down last year and it lasted until January, (we took it down but it was still in good shape). Keep in mind if you buy one off of a lot, it has probably been cut for weeks prior to you purchasing it. We go to the same place every year, it is out near Riverhead. Turn left off the LIE towards Calverton and make your first right. If you pass the carving board restaraunt you went too far. The place is called Lewin Farms and the tree are only $30. There are hundreds of trees to choose from, they have saws and a tractor to help you carry it if it is too far away. Merry Christmas.

Re: Real Christmas Trees
I will be putting up my real tree on Saturday, 12/7. I just make sure to keep them watered every morning and every night. That is very important.
