REALLY stupid cooking question coming your way...

ok I saw a yummy looking recipe on the official recipe thread (great idea jenn!!! there are a ton of recipes!!!) and it said to put the dish in the broiler for 10 minutes.

Here's where i ask you a really stupid cooking question (just fyi, but i just started cooking 7 minths ago so i honestly don't know)

ummmmm, how do you turn on the broiler???

Does it just turn on when you turn on the oven?? I have a gas stove, 4 burners on top, burners and oven turn on with knobs (not digital) and I don't see any knob for the broiler so I assume its on when the oven's on, yes?

Also, do you kneed to specify temp for the broiler or is it just one setting??

Not a stupid question.

Usually the knob for the oven temperatures has the broiler control on it. Just turn the knob all the way around (past 550) and that turns on the broiler.
Only one temp setting for broil.

If your broiler is in the oven, rather than underneath it, leave the oven door cracked open a bit. Food cooks better this way.

oh and btw genius, you push the 'broiler' button and it turns on - high or low.

You want a dumb question? Last night i couldnt figure out how to use my salad spinner!

Thanks everyone! I actually never saw the broiler option on my oven knob - derrrrrr. I just always flip it to 350 or 400, lol. THX!!!
