registry question.... anyone have an online registry?

hi all....

NO, I'm not getting remarried I'm thinking about baby registries. But I'd love to hear from anyone who had an online wedding registry.....

I set-up a baby registry on amazon. I will also have a small babies-r-us registry for the one or 2 people who I know that dislike computers/online shopping.

do you think this is a huge mistake? Most of the items have free shipping and no tax. I'm mainly wondering if the propensity of guests to buy gifts a couple days before the shower is becuase they have to make time to schlep to the store (in which amazon would be great), OR if it's becuase they don't think of getting a gift until the last minute (in which case amazon would be a disaster).

(Why do I want to do this? I just love the enormous selection on amazon. It bummed me out that babies-r-us had such a small selection of strollers, carseats... Obviously no physical store could come close to the selection at amazon)
TIA

I had set up an online wedding registry for finnish relatives that couldn't make it or in case the ones that were traveling here wanted to bring brands they were familiar with, since they generally give gifts not cash (it was a website in the US but selling finnish products). I actually received a few of the items off the registry, so at least they checked it out!! I linked it on our wedding website.

I'm guessing you'd provide the web address on your shower invites? I think its cool since so many people shop online, and it works since you'll have a registry at babies r us too.

so you got a few items only?

I'm just a tad worried because I only have a few items on the BRU registry.... most is on amazon.

I wonder if everyone really feels comfortable buying from amazon for a shower

well I only put maybe 20 items on the online registry, so I did the opposite of what you're thinking- most items were on 'store' registries. I'd prob. add more items to the BRU registry just to be safe.

i definitely would bulk up the BRU registry anyway--just because a lot of people just are not that comfortable buying things online -- especially older folks who might want to purchase items. they like the idea of going into a store and finding the items themself.

have both registries -- but just make sure there is a decent amount on the BRU

Our Target reg was essentially an online one, and it was kind of a disaster... most of the stuff we chose was shower-worthy stuff, and so when people bought late within a few days of the shower, of course, it didn't come on time.

Have you looked into Buy Buy Baby as well as BabysRUs?

hm not sure what you are asking, I did my whole registry on line, I got some things delivered and some thing were bought at the store-does that help at all?
