before you got engaged- people would ask non stop, so when are you taking the plunge?
Or once you're married, when are you gonna have a kid?
Well...I've had a few birthday calls today and every single one of them asks 'So he's taking you out to dinner for your birthday right?' or when I tell them I'm just going to his volleyball game tonight they ask 'So he's not taking you out for your birthday?'
DH has a problem. I have to TELL him these things. I have to TELL him what I want for my birthday. As far as I know we are NOT going out to dinner tonight- or tomorrow for that matter. He hasn't said anything. And I'm not about to suggest it because I want it to come from HIM!
I'm sure most of you know what I mean. At least I hope you do so that I'm not alone in having a clueless Joe for a hubby. Man people are making me feel cruddy now!!!
Thanks for listening to me vent!

biotch!
Seriously! I'd have no problem with it if people didn't make me feel like he SHOULD be doing this!
Seriously- thank you for listening to my pathetic self absorbed whining.

This is a common disease many men have. Happius Birthius Bad Giftius Syndrome it affects 8 out of 10 men. We are still searching for a cure.
I know what you mean. Last year my most wonderful Dh ordered flowers for me at 7am on the computer. A. I was allergic to the flowers he sent me and B. Thanks for putting all that thought into my gift. C. I hate flowers I think they are a waste of money.
Is it really so hard to go buy a card and actually put more than 5 seconds of thought into a gift. The day is not over yet so he may still surprise you. Sometimes you have to help them surprise you. This year my DH said he was planning a BBQ at the house for my birthday I explained that me running around like a maniac while he sits and 'entertains' our guests is not in any way shape or form a gift. If he wants to BBQ thats great but make sure I get some nice wrapped gifts to go with the 'party' . I am so cheap I would seriously be happy with socks from target but just to know he actually spent 5 minutes in the women's section while out shopping is gift enough.

you are cute!
Yes its annoying...like if he DID take you to dinner you would have to call them and tell them
Thats what you should do. Randomly call people and say ........... so we are going to mow the lawn today and then take a walk< just an FYI

YES!! It's the friggin' THOUGHT that counts! DUHHHHH!!
Thanks babe!
and NO you are NOT one of 'those' people- you asked if I was doing anything fun. Yes, going to his volleyball game is fun. I always look forward to it.
But asking if BRETT is TAKING ME OUT TO DINNER?! That's cause for a smack in the snout!

good one!!!
I really should be leaving now too. I'm bitter that I'm making my own dinner and meeting him there when the friggin' place is an outdoor bar and grill! I think I actually asked him what he was doing for dinner and he said he was bringing his dinner to work and eat it there before he goes. And I was like, you don't want to hang out with everyone and eat with them? And he said, no. We'll just come home and watch the Yankee game......Unless, that's what YOU want to do.
UGGH that's not the POINT! When will I EVER get over the fact that I have to do the thinking FOR him?! I knew every single gift I got too!! Ugh 6 years with the guy and I still get annoyed?
Eh...at least I've learned to get over the fact that sports come first.
And Diane- if you read this- Don't FEEL BAD!!!! I'm not mad at YOU for saying it (and you were one of MANY so don't worry! ) I'm mad at my clueless husband! At least we had fun last night in the city- who needs hubbies anyway?

My DH is clueless in a lot of ways too, you are not the only one. Let's just put it this way, he takes care of me like no other, but he DOESN'T have a romantic bone in his body! I'm always like, bring me home flowers one day out of the blue!!!! As for your birthday, I usually tell DH where I want to go. The days when he randomly suprise me with a romantic dinner are long gone! Now we kind of just plan things together-so don't feel so bad!

Thanks Jen
FIL just called and kinda mentioned this whole thing and he said 'What do you expect? you're married now!' Thing is, he never 'got it' even before we were married!

I doubt anyone cares but... DH did hound his dad to call me for my birthday. They were gonna call me later tonight but he called FIL to tell him he had to call me NOW.
Right as I was making a veggie burger.
I'm such a brat!

I know...mine too! The same with my DH, but I think we tend to notice things even more now because they have been built up for a long time!! Don't worry, you will have so much fun at the game, hey, that's better then dinner!!! Just try to ignore what people say, people are clueless. Also, if this stuff hurts your feelings, it can't hurt to talk to him about it. I don't hold anything in.
Either way, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TARA!!!! ENJOY YOU DAY!!!

Re: Remember how annoying it was....
I have comnpletely given up on any surprises from DH.......as far as what we're doing, I tell him what I WANT to do (otherwise if I'm disappointed I get the whole speech 'well how was I supposed to know what you want to do if you don't tell me' geeeeee I guess he thinks what I want to do on my birthday is sit around watch sports and snore on the couch b/c that would be HIS perfect birthday.......anywhoooo, tell Brett you want to go out to dinner and let him take it from there!!

Re: Remember how annoying it was....
You are MUCH better than me. *I* email DH a wish list, with links to the gifts and descriptions. Then, a few days before *I* call DH and ask him where AND when to make reservations. THEN I emai him three options on where I want to go.
THAT is why I get what I want, I have NO shame. I spent to many years spending my birthday at home crying.

I've started doing the same thing ....
I make a wishlist on Amazon so he can buy me something I want ...
And I don't wait for him to figure out that I want to go out for dinner, I tell him where I want to go.
I understand that its the thought that counts, and it would be nice if he would take the initiative, but why risk disappointment?

Re: Remember how annoying it was....
well ladies...I'm bad. I jumped the gun. Then again, the question that I couldn't answer - 'So Brett isn't taking you out to dinner?' was what was REALLY bothering me. I felt like a jerk for not being able to answer it!
So tonight- we're at volleyball- which was fun as always. We have a couple beers afterwards with some friends. I thank DH for the beer and he laughs and says 'We'll go to Thatcher McGhee's (local watering hole) tomorrow'.
Yup, that's me! Always expecting the worst! And of course he was just planning to take me out tomorrow.
Thanks again for being there for me when I whine!

Re: Remember how annoying it was....
My Best friends boyfriend is mr. romantic, he's always surprising her, taking her away, buying her things-just the most thoughtful guy I'm glad to hear that most of your DHs are like mine (thoughtless & lazy-well that's too mean but you know what i mean)
DH always says 'if you wanted someone like that you should have married a girl, you married a real man' guess he has a point
