Remember when I was bitching....

Remember when I was bitching....

about people actively asking for donations for charities to the point of annoyance... well I just got a holiday card with a return envelope in it and a letter asking for donations. Is it me or is that tacky?

was it from a friend or was it directly from an organization - I think if from someone you know - yes tacky - greetings cards are just that - a way to be nice but if it was from an organization that you have supported in the past - then I think it's fine. .

A friend trying to raise money for running the Boston Marathon for the MS Society.

This is one of mine and DH's best guy friends from college by the way, the one who had a party this past Halloween and invited all our other best friends from college except DH and I. His wife does this every year, but she got hit by a car running and so he is taking over. I appreciate that he is taking over for her and I feel bad she is hurt, but every year they are annoying and relentless.

This is also the first time i got a holiday card from him since I have known him (1998) including the year we were dating, and he has been married 2 years already.

In that case - YES I think it's tacky - I feel like a friend's good wishes for the holiday should be separate from asking for money - esp if you haven't received cards before, etc. . . I see why you would feel upset then!

OMG

wow. Not for nothing - I think it 'might' be ok if they slipped a note in there exlpaining what they were doing & a website link to check out things (& through there you should have the choice of wanting to 'donate' or not), BUT to SEND A DONATION ENVELOPE!!!! that is just downright rude. Esp in this economy & doubly esp b/c they should know you & DH are currently a 1 income family & that you dont have that type of 'disposable income'

It would be a totally different story had you been talking w/this friend & they told you about this event & you said to them 'oh I'd like to donate - send me a donation envelope' & they sent it w/ Christmas card.

But what they did was over the top obnoxious! That is truly the epitomy of rudeness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'd send a Christmas card back with the same envelope, cross out what it's intended for & write something like 'donation for unemployed wife's fund'....lol

Love that idea, to bad I sent them one already. It was going to be the last time I sent them a card if I didn't get one from them.
