Removing wallpaper Tips ??

Removing wallpaper Tips ??

OK, I need advice from some handy ladies. I have never had wallpaper in the house growing up, so i dont even know where to start... My MIL suggests having it professionally removed to avoid a disaster. I would probably like to sponge paint (and not re-wallpaper), but that depends on what the walls look like afterwards right ?

Any pointers ? (MRS. Suzanne H. Depot, ya there?)

Oh I'm the queen of this. We used Dawn dish soap in a spray bottle mixed with water. Spray it on the wallpaper and soak it and then use a scraper. It takes some time and is a bit messy -- but this was the only way we could figure out how to get it off. The people who lived in our house before us loved border and there was border everywhere in the house. We've done two bathrooms of wallpaper and three rooms with border.

Buy this remover called Dap at Home D and get one of those red round scorer (sp?) things and go to town. First score the wallpaper to make holes and let the Dap soak and soak. I removed a border and thought I would never border or wallpaper a room because it was awful just to remove that small strip around the room!

Good luck!

We used something called Dif that we got at Home Depot, and had no problems ripping the ugly stuff down.
Our walls were in pretty bad shape underneath, and we didn't have the time or $$ to fix it so we re wallpapered for now. I actually got wallpaper that looks like sponge painting! It's pretty and I don't mind it for the time being. When we finally redo the bathroom we will fix the walls and paint.

LOL Stace I was just telling Patrick Home Depot has other wallpaper stuff we should try when we take down our kitchen wallpaper. He's going to laugh when I tell him it's the same stuff!

The home depot has stuff called Dif, and some great tools to get you started for tough jobs ... when you go to get the dif, ask the guy about the tools, but one tip. dont let him just point you in the direction, MAKE him take you there!!! i have so many problems wandering around cause some idiot just pointed me in the wrong direction!!! LOL
