Hi.
As some of you may know I have to find a new officiant.
All of the Pastors I am speaking to require pre marital counseling. I am not shocked or surprised by this as it is very typical and highly advisable.
I just want to know what to expect. I know it won't be as involved as Pre cana.
I am worried that he will tell us we are not compatible or we do not resolve issues in a healthy manner according to their standards.
Can a pastor refuse to marry you? Can some of you share your experiences?

I'm not sure if it is the same but both husband & I are greek orthodox and we had to meet with our priest.
He asked us a few questions about how we met, what we like/dislike about eachother, what we argue about the most and how we deal with the aftermath of the fight, what are priorities are, etc.
He touched upon financial, spiritual and mental issues as well.
I was nervous about it but it all worked out well.

We had some sort of 'compatibility test' we had to take through the Lutheran Church. It asked a bunch of questions about faith, bringing up children, how to resolve issues, financial aspects of marriage, etc. NOT surprisingly enough, we didn't score very high on the compatibility issues. My husband thinks he did the test wrong - thought he was answering one way but answered another. But alot of issues in our relationship was uncovered through these sessions. I really believe in my heart of hearts that the Pastor was not comfortable in marrying us, but went ahead with it anyway. He did show a great amount of concern for us through the sessions. He was an excellent guy - I miss him. He moved to Chicago the day after we got married.

we took the same test that Shamee was talkng about and our Pastor said we scored really high but if we had had any problems she would have worked with us to try and resolve it. She said she has never not married a couple but she did try and discurage a couple that scored very, very low on the test. I wouldnt worry about it. Im sure you and your FH are together for a reason!!
