What's a good brand to get? What does your package cover? And if you don't mind telling me the cost per month. I've seen so many ads for too many companies and I want to get a good one.

Re: Repost from LIF - Alarm Systems
we had never heard of our alarm company until we moved into our house. they're called Southshore Alarms. we stuck with the same package the old owners had and the same company. granted, we've only had them for a little over a week, but so far customer service has been great. we had to trip the alarm to make sure the central station go the signal, and they call you within 30 -45 seconds. if you give them the wrong password, they will send the police to your house.
we have sensors in all of our windows, front and rear doors, and the garage. these were already in place so we didn't have to pay for them. we also have a motion sensor on the first floor, a heat sensor in the kitchen, and a smoke alarm upstairs. from what i understand, they will call the fire dept if the heat and/or smoke alarms go off.
we pay $20 a month for the service which we think is really affordable. a coworker of mine who just moved to suffolk had ADT install an alarm system, and she said to set up each window was $85. not sure how much it was for the doors or motion sensor. she is paying $32 a month for her service.

Re: Repost from LIF - Alarm Systems
my DH installs alarms, most alarm companies give you a 'free' system, its usually very basic
There are 2 different types hard wired and wireless
Most alarm companies use a central station monitoring and they just upcharge you
So like my DH pays 5 dollars a month and would charge somene 25 dollars for monitoring We dont charge our friends are family alot, they pay our cost
I know people who pay upwards of 45-50 a month but it only costs the company 5 bucks so they are making a big profit

I've heard of south shore alarms...I think I saved a flyer from when we closed on our house. I figured ADT and Slomin Shield would be costly since they're much more popular. It sounds like you have what we would want to get.

Re: Repost from LIF - Alarm Systems
We just got one installed and it is pretty state of the art. It's about $25 a month..I don't remember if there was an installation fee.
Anyway, it includes 3 door sensors (we put one on a window since we only have 2 doors), a glass break sensor (so you don't need to wire every window), 2 control pads, 2 key chain fobs (like to unlock your car, turn on and off), and it is wired so if you have a problem, the people don't call, they are on an intercom and you can talk to them from any room in the house.
It is an awesome system and we got it because my husband works a lot of nights and we travel a lot. It helps me sleep at night.
*But I am in NC*

Wireless is more expensive for the equipment our house is hard wired because it was a new construction and it was better we did it that way. Most people would get wireless if they are not a new build
