Hi ! I am pretty new to the area, I was just wondering what hospitals around here are reputable as far as, i guess in general, their maternity, ER, etc etc.
StonyBrook ? Good Samaritan ? St. Catherines ? St. Charles ?
I think these are the 4 closest to me. I just wanted to know what anyone knows about them.
Thanks for your feedback !

Reputable Hospitals ?
I have been to the ER at Good Samaritan. It was my first personal trip to an ER and I could not believe how great they were. When the IV was removed, you could not see any marks even though I usually bruise easily. I had a dr. examining me and an intern doing most of the work. The intern even called the next day to see how I was doing. I have been there for some outpatient tests too, and I have no complaints.
Southside Hospital in Bay Shore has a brand new maternity ward that has top ratings. My friend had her last 2 kids at St. Charles and 1 at Good Sam. When I went to go see her there was no limit on the # of people who could visit at one time. She likes both places. I have also heard great things about Stonybrook, but I have never been there.

Pregnant?? or planning?
Anna - are you already pregnant? If so, God bless!! You got me curious about if anyone is planning on having kids right away? I would love to, but we are trying to wait a bit because we have a plan with getting a house and all irst, which absolutely makes the most sense. But of course...the plan doesn`t incorporate the maternal longings that only women can understand. So what are you other ladies doing? I know everyone's situation is different but I'm curious :o)

longings?- what do u feel about kids?
hmm...i dont know..it is kinda scary to me
to be thinking of kids. but happy too.
Most of my friends are married w/kids and they
all seem to do it well.
Rob & I planned to wait a year or two-
and bingo! here we are at the one year mark.
Being 34 doesnt make the decision any easier-
Specially when I lost my dad at 21 and mom at 23.
Her last year she developed cancer & I was the primary
caregiver...and had a brother who did not adapt to
the situation ...so my fun times were def cut short
...
So I keep thinking of all the things we CANNOT do once
we have kids...then I get mushy mom pangs when I see kids ,
and scared feelings too..
(I guess I think a bit too much :0)
What have all of you been thinking and experiencing?

I totally agree with you. I do know that we will not be able to do so many things (like travelling) and how we will have alot less time for just us. And we absolutely love kids but we have a few nieces and nephews and I enjoy them so much but you can also give them back if they cry, poop, spit up, or if you want to be able to just sit still. I`m also in my early 30`s so I`m very sure that that also plays a part in my thinking. I agree it`s a scary thought but in speaking to new mothers (3 new babies in 3 months in our family) I know that every mother goes through those feelings...I do believe that we will know when the time is right though.

I can totally relate to that, wanting the house, him studying to further his career, etc.. but then factor in my age (37) UGH! and you can see I feel like I have a deadline to meet, especially since my husband and I would like to have 2 children together. We already have a 8 yr old son so I guess my situation is a bit different

I am so jealous.....
I`m on the other side of 40, and that combined with an inheritable disease that my husband doesn`t want to pass on... well, adoption of an older child (maybe 3 - 5 yrs old) is the only route we`d probably consider.
But since I just lost my job, and we need to get a house.... well, it just doesn`t seem too financially responsible as much as I want to be a mother... I guess I`ll have to be satisfied with being an Aunt - that`s part of why I`m hoping we move to Arizona instead of Long Island - so we can be closer to my brother`s children since there won`t be any little ones on hubbys side...
Enough of the self-pity... thanks for listening. :-)

I`m sorry...
...and didn`t mean to assume that everyone could have or want to have children. I only recently got to know someone who has adopted a child (a little older too) and it is an amazing process for them, obviously different than the pregnancy & birth process but wonderful and challenging and scary and amazing all the same. I can relate to wanting to be close to your nieces/nephews - my beloved nephew, who is 11 1/2 lives in Atlanta and I ish I could see him more.

It's OK....
My cousin who is a few years younger than me just adopted a Korean baby and is in the process of adopting a second baby from Korea.
Who knows what life will bring anyway. God has his own plan and I`ve seen it working in our relationship more than once.
I came to terms with it more or less several years ago when I decided that I wanted to choose being with hubby rather than chasing after the unknown looking for something that might never be.
I just get a little melancholy with the yearnings when I see babies or think about it too much.
Hey - I`ll be available to baby sit for all of you if I move to Long Island!!!!!

I can''t believe all the messages on this one. My hubby and I aren''t ready for little ones yet. We''re going to wait a few years. However, we have lots of nieces and nephews to get us through for now. They remind us that we''re not ready for children and the commitment associated with it. I guess it''s everyone''s personal preference and maturity level. My hubby and I bought a house and are concentrating on fixing it up for now.
Good luck to everyone on their plans!!

Can't wait!
I cannot wait to have a baby! Hubby and I bought our first house in September and got married in May. We were going to start trying right away, but there is a big question mark about his job situation right now, so we are probably not going to start trying until the fall. We have plenty of things to do in the house, but we both agreed we'd rather have children now too being in our thirties. It will be a big lifestyle change since we love to take trips, etc., but we are both ready for it. I can't wait for the fall!!
Karen H., I agree with you that God always has a plan for all of us, and I'm sure whatever decisions you and hubby make, moving, adopting, whatever, since you have and love each other - you have everything!
By the way, my only experience with hospitals on Long Island was rushing my then-boyfriend (now hubby) to Good Sam on Thanksgiving night 2 years ago - I was very impressed with their ER and the treatment he received.

our plan ;-)
I love how we call it a plan-- cause this is a tough one to really predict--we hope to be in a new house by next year (summer) and then wait 2-3 years after that--mostly because I dont want to work once we have kids-- so we have to e financially prepared to live on one income --not an easy thing--
even though we think we have it worked out you never know--my brother and sister in law tried for over a year--ended up going through procedure after procedure and were fortunate to have 2 healthy little girls 2 weeks before our wedding-- so i saw what they went through and came to the reality that in this area of life planning doesnt work(sure we can try to prevent but even then you never know!!)
enough babbling

Phyl, I give you alot of credit, losing both of your parents at that age. If you were able to be the primary caregiver for your mom, I have no doubt that you will be an amazing primary caregiver for your children.
My twin sister has 2 beautiful girls, and I do want to have kids close in age so they can grow up together. I also think we should have kids while we still have energy to run around with them ! (we're 26 and 30).
I definately get those moments of 'how do you do it' with my sister. Especially with my oldest neice being 2 ! (that wonderful age!). But all in all, I totally adore children and cant wait to be a mother.
We are still getting settled in the house (its been 8ths) but they way i see it is, if you keep saying 'after we do this, after we do that' you will wait too long. Actually my husband is very much the type to say (since we first went to Disney together after a year of dating)..he would always say 'this would be so much MORE fun with kids, just seeing the look in their eyes' or 'I cant wait till we do this with kids.' as much as he says that and LOVES kids, He does get a little nervous when i mention it. The thought of being primary breadwinner for a whole 'family' is overwhelming I guess (hey i work too !). and then he gets into the 'after we do this and that to the house' etc etc. RRRRRR :)
However everyone plans it or prefers it, as long as it works for you. God Bless and enjoy !!!!!!!!!

I am so jealous.....KAREN
Karen,
Adoption is an incredible thing. you will be making such an amazing impact on the life of a child.
I saw a show about a month ago on adoption where it showed all celebrities that have adopted. Well they asked Barbara Walters how she told her daughter that she was adopted, and she said she told her growing up that 'Some babies are born in their mommies tummies and some are born in their mommies hearts, and you were born in mommy's heart'
I thought that was soooo precious !
