Response Question

Response Question

It seems that everyone went through the garbage of people not responding....so what did you do when you called them? Did you just say are you coming or not (in a nice way of course)? What happened if they said 'I don’t know yet'. What did you say then? I know I will have to start calling people in a week or so…so I really want to have my speech prepared!! Thanks

Re: Response Question

We just politely asked,' we need to give a head count to the caterer, and wanted to know if you would be coming.'
We didn't have too many to call, so it wasn't too bad.

Had a lot of no shows though. Watch out for this!!

Re: Response Question

actually, any of the response issues we had were from close friends that we knew were coming ... even 3 members of our BP!

I did have this problem though ... 2 invited guests never got their invites. I mentioned it casually b/c neither had said anything about coming etc. I was glad I asked! It's so embarrassing b/c you don't want them to think they were on the B list or something!

Re: Response Question

I started off by saying that I havn't recd your response yet for our wedding and I just wanted to see if you sent if back yet because maybe it got lost in the mail (I did have a few that arrived weeks later!! Gotta love the post office) If they say they dont know yet, basically tell them that you have to give a final number to the hall on ______ (what ever date you choose) and you hope that they will be able to get back to you by then.

I hope that helps. I have found that if you ask someone out right if they are coming or not, most of them will feel bad that they have not responded yet and will give you and answer right away.

Good Luck!

Re: Response Question

Most people responded at the last minute...I got a lot the week after the due date.

When I did call/email, I just asked if they knew if they were coming because I have to give my final count. Most people promptly answered without issue - not really wishy-washy (except a few that didn't know if they were bringing dates - close friends and I felt bad so I was ok with it).

I had a few (8 people in total) that never did respond still, so I just assumed they were no's.

Re: Response Question

that's true, deb! always start out by giving your caterer about 5 fewer guests than you actually think is coming. We worked it out by table so that the # of tables was the same & eliminated the 'guests'. This way when someone doesn't show, you don't have to pay for them! You can always add them on at the last minute.

We had about 5 people at the last minute cancel ... all with good reason, but still. We were happy we did it that way!

Re: Response Question

christmasbride,
We had 13 no shows!
Only one couple let us know in advance, but it was too late to tell the caterer!

Re: Response Question

that's TERRIBLE! I can't think of anything in poorer taste than to say you're going to be there ... it's a WEDDING for heaven's sake ... not a backyard B-B-Q! ... and not show up!

I couldn't ever imagine doing it to someone. Who were these people? Not people you had to see afterwards?!

Re: Response Question

we had one couple as a no-show (and no call in the weeks following) - we haven't seen them since.

For those that didn't RSVP - I don't think I called anyone (all MY guests responded ). I set my mom on the task of tracking down family, and Al's mom for his family. He called a few of his friends.

Generally, they knew why they were being called. 'Oh you probably want to know if we're coming to the wedding' DUH! And 9 times of out 10 they had an answer readily available. There were one or two who wouldn't know until the last minute (?!), but 95% of the non-responsive, were NOs.

Re: Response Question

I had a rule, whoever the guest 'belonged' to had to make the calls. Scott called his rude non-responsive people, I called mine and the parents had to call theirs. I built in 2 weeks extra to my RSVP date for the non-responders.
