RP BHB: How Would You Monogram a Hyphenated Last Name..
Hey Newlyweds!!!! I need your help!!! If any of you have hyphenated your last name....
I want to buy something off of Ebay for one of my BMs, but I don't know how to do a Monogram for a hyphenated last name...
For Example: Jennifer Marie Smith-Jones
How would I make a Monogram for that????
Thanks!!!

If it were for the both of them, I'd use the first letters of their first names and leave off the last names entirely.
If its just for her, the only way you can do a three letter is to use the first letter of her last name ... but since she is hyphenating, she may not like it that way.

Thank you... The gift is just for her, and I know she gets very picky about things like this... Why do I think so much about these things!!!

Honestly, I wouldn't monogram it. I didn't change my name, but sometimes people assume that I am only using my maiden name professionally. If I got something with my DH last initial on it, I probably wouldn't use it.
Can you ask her in a subtle way how she would like it?

I think it would be the same as if you wree doing someone's first, middle and last initials-- just replace the middle initial with the maiden initial. I legally hyphenated, and I often initial things as KVC (First initial, maiden name initial, married name initial). I think that's the way I would like it-- all letters equal size, so you're not treating one letter as 'the' last name initial. If she cared enough to hyphenate, I would think the maiden name letter would be more important to her than her midle name initial. JMO.
