Sealing the envelope

Wacky's post got me thinking-

Have you ever been to a wedding that was so awful that you wish you could have reached into the envelope and taken $$$ out or given a less extravagant gift?

I went to a wedding similar to the one mentioned by Misty, and we gave a very generous gift. I really wished I could have reached in and takend some $$$$ out.

Re: Sealing the envelope

I see money as a gift to start their new life together...not to cover my plate and for my entertainment...

ETS: it took a bit to come to this point after some of the lower gifts at my wedding

Re: Sealing the envelope

I have never done that but I have been to weddings where the couple clearly threw the crappiest party they could, invited everyone on the free planet and took absolutely no time or thought in making sure the guests were happy. So I feel like it was all about the making the most amt possible. And guess what - the people whose weddings were like that were the ones that either stiffed us (after we gave a nice gift to them) or gave us a really ****** gift. Im sorry - how do you not give what was given to you??? Its insane.

I will say that since having our wedding it has been so much easier to give gifts. If someone gave us a lot, I love to get them something really generous b/c I feel like its my turn to reciprocate. If we got a very small gift, Im happy to enjoy their wedding and give the same in return knowing that its only fair. Before that, I agonized over each dollar I spent b/c I wanted to make suer it was enough. I realize now I gave far too much in many cases.
