I grew up in Centereach, and lived there until last august. : ) There are some very nice parts, and some so-so parts. The school district (Middle Country) was decent when I went there, got REALLY bad for a time, and is getting much, much better (my mom teaches there). I'd say overall, it's a nice, relatively inexpensive place to live and raise a family. : )

Our realtor did tell us that the school system underwent a change for the better. She really was not too specific about what areas to avoid. If you don't mind e:mailing me at [email protected] to let me know where to stay away from, I'd appreciate it
