Seriously annoyed right now...

Every 3 months, we have a 'tech meeting' at work, which is breakfast at a diner in Queens where we and all our field technicians meet up. I always go, but this time I was not allowed b/c no one would be here to watch the phones (usually my coworker does it but she's off). So fine, I got over the fact that I wasn't going, but I gave my supervisor a few things to go over with the techs from me.

I just got a call from one of the techs who snuck out of breakfast to smoke. He told me that my supervisor stood up and was like, 'So does anyone have any complaints about Marisa?' ***? I know he meant it to be a joke b/c that is how he is, but I am sorry that is just rude. I am gonna say something to him when he gets back to the office. I mean, I know I can be too sensitive about things, but give me a break! Who does that?! JERK! I'm annoyed now.

Sorry, just needed to vent.

That is BS, and I would be annoyed as well. I know you don't want to out your friend, but I would say something like 'so did everyone talk about me?' just as a joke and see what your supervisor says.

I am mean like that so I would do it lol But you don't want to get your friend in trouble, so maybe not.

I am sorry though, that is very rude!

The worst part is, he's going to tell me to relax and that he was just joking, etc. I DO tend to be very sensitive about things, but I don't think I am wrong here to be annoyed about this! And clearly, you girls all agree with me!!! UCK

is there any chance he does this purposely to get under your skin, if you think thats possible- I wouldnt bother getting upset.

I honestly dont think he thought I'd ever know what was said. AND the kicker is, the tech who told me, they cannot stand so I am betting they are going to deny saying it altogether, saying that the tech made it up or something.

why would anyone crack a joke like that?

Ok, so I took the coward's way out and sent my supervisor an email. Here is what I wrote:

So, I know I am taking the coward’s way out by emailing you rather than speaking to you, but what can I say – I’ve never been good at confrontation. – sorry!

Tech called me earlier when he snuck out of the breakfast for a smoke. He called me just to say good morning and that they missed me. He mentioned that you read my little list or whatever. Then he told me that you asked them all if they had any complaints about me? Did you in fact ask that? I think if you did, you were probably joking around (I would hope?!), and it was meant to be funny. In fact I am sure that everyone was laughing about it. I have to say though, I don’t find it funny. You being my supervisor, I sort of feel it was a bit inappropriate for you to ask them that and it bothers me. Again, I will say that all this is being said based on what he told me. You guys joke around all the time, though, so I really didn’t find it hard to believe that you would joke about that. I KNOW I can be overly sensitive (trust me, I have been this way my entire life, it’s not something I can help), but in this situation I don’t think I’m wrong to be upset. I guess if you had said that with me there, yes, it would have been funny, but I wasn’t there. And now I am wondering what the techs answered to that. Did they have any complaints? Do YOU have any? I would hope that you would come to me with them so I can fix whatever it is. Tech was also laughing when he told me b/c I guess he thought it was funny, too. I did tell him I was going to talk to you about it when you got back, though, so he knows.

I will reiterate again that if you NEVER said this, than I truly apologize and you can forget I said any of this.

I will ALSO reiterate how much I truly love my job and love working here, which is why I wanted to say something to you, since it was bothering me. I hope you’re not mad :(

I feel better - this was his reply back to me:

Hey there. No, not mad at all. To be honest, I don’t THINK it was said. I may be remembering this wrong, but I think I may have asked “if you guys”, meaning the techs, “had any comments or complaints”. I think Boss may have chimed in with, “for Marisa… about Marisa”. That kind of thing. It got a chuckle. But I don’t really believe those words left my mouth. Whosever mouth it may have come from, it certainly was not meant with any ill intentions.

It was a very relaxed breakfast, and there was lots of joking around. I personally have no complaints about you, or for you. The guys didn’t have anything to say.

I like Tech, but I think he also got it a little wrong on some other points. I didn’t actually read from your list. I held it up, saying “I have some notes from Marisa, because she couldn’t be here herself to tell you.'

So Tech saw me hold up the list, but the only thing I touched upon was doing the work in the order in which we give it them. If a call says “Number 1, to do it first”, or if a call says “do at 2pm, not to make it their first call”.

I like your work here, and I like when you come in wearing a neck brace to do your work.

He HAD to throw that last thing in! At least he made me laugh!

I would be too! That is just not right even in a joking manner. I could see that happening where I work too. Very unproffesional of him. What a D-Bag!
