Someone at work said if she doesn't want to go to a party she simply will not reply to an rsvp. I don't know I think thats rude. I'm helping out with my BFs bridal shower and a good number of people have not replied by the rsvp. More that half the guest replied yes but still should I call those who did not respond? My aunt says abosolutely not she said if they show up the should feel like idiots when the waiter has to come and set their place setting - I thought that was pretty funny.

Your aunt's idea is really funny but I would still call, especially if so many rsvp's are outstanding. The restaurant may not be able to accomodate everyone or sevice may really be lacking b/c they planned for a smaller party.
I would also say it is extremely rude to not rsvp when it is asked. (some times rsvp's are regrets only which I think leads to more confusion).

I think its rude if someone doesn't respond to an invitation. I would call to see if they are coming.

I agree. It is rude to just NOT respond. I would call too. So this way you know how many people are coming for sure.

Agreed - rude if they do not call. But I would call them myself. I have done this for a bridal party that I was in. I had to call at least 10 people (and that was just my list) of people who did not respond! Although to the people's defense - the invites went out very late!

Its very rude not to respond. Anytime I have hosted a shower, I always end up calling one or 2 people to get my final head count! Its very annoying!!

that is one of my pet peeves - when people do not respond to an invite. In any case, I would call, you do not want to assume one way or the other.

Unless the invite says Regrets Only you should call either way. it is rude to assume that people know your thought process. I have 4 people who never responded to the baby shower invite I sent out and since I don't know these people at all (they are my friend's family) I am just figuring if they come, they come. But the shower is in my home and I am not paying per person! If I was, I would have made her husband call and get me answers.
