Silly Name Change Question

I know everyone is talking about how they already changed their names, but I'm a slacker! So here's my question, can I change my name at DMV before I go to Social Security?

I can get to DMV on my lunch hour, but the SS offices I will have to leave work early to go to.

Thanks...

Im pretty sure you need to do SS before anything else but call the DMV and ask. I did SS then passport because couldnt do the second without the first. doing DMV next.

Re: Silly Name Change Question

I did DMV first; all you need is marriage certificate to change name with DMV.

I also did the DMV first. I haven't gone to SS yet.

Re: Silly Name Change Question

Thanks ladies. I'm going to try going to DMV first. If they tell me no, I'll just take a half day and go to Social Security.

I also went to DMV first. SS was actually the last thing that I changed my name on.

It doesn't matter. You DON'T need you new SS card to get your new license. The DMV is going to look at your old one anyway, since the SS office lets you keep it and mails you your new one. It doesn't matter which order you do it in.
