From Newsday
A gunman toting a single-shot musket rifle has been arrested on the campus of St. John's Unviersity, police said, but no injuries were reported.
Following the 2:30 p.m. arrest, the campus was locked down, with students told to stay in their rooms, if possible, or to head to one of several designated gathering places.
Police, meanwhile, are still scouring the campus, trying to determine if another gunman is still on the loose.
Public safety officials disarmed the suspect and turned him over to police, according to a school statement.
Classes on the Queens campus were canceled for the evening.
'It is a bit scary but I'm glad the school has it under control,' said junior Elizabeth Mazzullo, 20.
'I was notified by text message to stay inside', shortly after 2:30 p.m., Mazzullo said. 'I saw a SWAT team enter the building.'
Gates surrounding the campus at 175th Street and Union Turnpike were closed this evening, leaving students and teachers outside along with a large contingent of media.
Kevin Su, a student on the Queens campus, said he was notified of the incident because of the emergency call system in place at the school.
'People are nervous, almost everyone is on their cell phones calling parents, and letting friends know not to come to campus,' said Su, 22, an editor of the student newspaper.
Su said students were ushered into buildings that were staffed with security guards and told to stay put. He said there wasn't much discussion of whether there were similarities between the incident Wednesday and the April 16 rampage on the campus of Virginia Tech where a student gunman killed 32 people before killing himself.
'I think it's basically on everyone's mind. It doesn't need to be said outright,' he said.
St. John's is a Catholic university of about 20,000 students with three residential campuses in New York.

Re: :*(
My brother has been on and off the phone with me... I was so nervous for him and couldn't concentrate... he said everyone was locked down because there might have been two other gunment that were not arrested...
he was locked down in a room with other students by the police who weren't letting them go anywhere for more than an hour - now they are just letting people go one by one....
