I have not read it but last time another NW posted asking about the book, people wrote back and said that pro-animal, PETA types wrote the book, so that's why it has that element....

how much truth is there to the book, only because I have heard others saying that some of the things they said were not facts and not things they did research on.

I have a book written by a doctor who talks about food and whats good for you and whats bad, and the truth about alot of things so yes some things are scary. Haven't read the book so don't know but others have said that this book goes to the extreme

I won't read it. If you do some research on it (which I did bc a friend of mine also stopped eating meat after it) and it is written by two models - lots of real Dr's say that half of the information in the book is not correct.

'The diet book called “Skinny *****” has been flying off bookstore shelves, buoyed by the modeling pedigree of its authors and a frank “stop eating crap” message that distinguishes it from traditional diet books.

But this week, Salon magazine is taking “Skinny *****” to task, claiming it preys on the insecurities of dieters and people with eating disorders. “The only thing this weight-loss book will help you lose is self-esteem,” states the article.

As reported last fall in The Times, “Skinny *****” looks like a diet book for the chick-lit generation, but inside is a hardcore vegan message. Readers attracted by the book’s irreverent tone have been surprised to encounter chapters on meat and poultry farming practices.

Salon writer Julie Klausner says that in addition to the hidden vegan agenda, the book’s authors, Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin, have filled the book with “punitive dieting tactics that prey on women’s insecurities about their bodies.” Ms. Barnouin is a former model, and Ms. Freedman is a former modeling agent.'

I guess you just have to take it for what it is. It's a diet book wriiten by models. Not a factual book written by doctors or someone who truely knows about the meat industry. IMO

I read it and I have not eaten meat, poultry or eggs in months. It's a good book to read months before your wedding......good weight loss!

I read it too. At first I was really into it. Then towards the end I felt they were pushing the Vegan lifestyle too much.

I didn't stop eating meat but I did start buying ORGANIC!! Which is free of the horrible antibiotics and hormones.

they are vegan and trying to push others to live a vegan lifestyle. They are models, and not experts on any of this. Do they talk in the book about the fact that if you cut certain things out in your life to take vitamins to substitute for the nutrients you wont be getting if you do this? I would hope they at least do this.

If you want to find real facts then get a book written by a professional

I heard the book is entertaining to read but should not be taken seriously. I think a vegetarian diet can be very healthy if one is interested and then I would recommend Dr. Dean Ornish's books.

I find this hard to believe. With all the (contaminated) meat that I eat, I should be dead by now. :lol My sister is the exact opposite. She used to be a vegetarian for 6 years. Last years she started eating organic meat only. She shops at Trader Joes and only buys organic food. I would love to eat all organic but it's too darn expensive. Besides, I don't feel unhealthy compared to my sis.
