Hi ladies! So, last night I slammed the front door on my finger, or rather, right at the base of my nail bed. It is really bruised right there, and still hurts. I have acrylic wraps on. I don't usually have them, I got them for the wedding a month a go, and have kept them up because they look nice, and I have a couple of other weddings coming up. I am due for a fill-in today or tomorrow, but do you think that is safe with the bruise? Should I just have them soaked off altogether? I did want to keep them because I have a wedding a week from Sunday. Any advice? My gut tells me to just take them off, let the injured nail breathe, but the rest of my nails will be so awfully thin from having the wraps on. This is the place I always turn to for words of wisdom, please help! Thanks!

It hurt like hell last night, and still hurts now when I touch it. Its totally purple just at the base of the nail, and the acrylic cracked a drop, but the nail didn't totally break. I know, its so gross! I'm scared it will hurt to take off, I'm scared it might get infected if I leave it on -- any ideas? thoughts?

keep it on. don't go for a fill in now though. give it a few days. if they have to replace the tip so be it. if you can take the tip off yourself do it at your own pace otherwise they will just yank it off.
I think as long as your nail isn't going to fall off or it didn't break down towards the bottom you will be fine.
But hwatever you do, wait af ew days

thanks! My gut was telling me to go today, and ask what they think. There are no tips anymore -- they grew out -- its just a wrap over my own nail. This happened to me once years ago (no tips on), and it was gross, the nail eventually did turn black and fall off.

Hi Shari!!! Sorry to hear about your finger!!! So advice #1 is stop slamming doors on your finger and #2, I'd probably dunk it in a bowl of ice water ASAP to stop any further swelling... As long as you can move the tip of your finger it should be ok, no broken bone or anything so that's good. I know how sore that is and I would NOT be getting the tip removed today or for the next few days Good luck and I hope it heals FAST!!!!

OUCHHHH!
My brother had this happen when we were younger and the nailbed turned black and blue. He went to the doctor and and they actually put a couple of tiny holes in his nail to drain it and (I believe) to relieve the pressure. Maybe call your dr. and see what they recommend? Feel better!

Thank you Colette! Good advice, esp. #1 I did keep it in ice for a while last night (before taking a pain killer and going to bed), its not too swollen. So, I'm not worried about vanity, I just don't want an infection. If the common consensus is its OK, then I will wait a couple of days. And congrats on the baby
