Sleep Apnea/Sleep Tests

Sleep Apnea/Sleep Tests

DH & I are scheduled for sleep tests in a few weeks. . I know they arent a big deal but when DH saw the pic of the person with all the wires coming out of their head he wanted to faint. He's quite nervous. I told him to relax, theres a tv and radio in the room--sports! He's convinced he wont sleep since he's too nervous.

The dr. asked us a few questions about daytime tiredness and you aren't supposed to score higher than a 9. I scored a 10 and DH scored a 12. We failed.

Awww my Hubby went for these tests, and yes they do hook up wires to your head, but after a while you don't realize they were there. He also brought in a DVD to watch so he could be comfortable and fall asleep.

DH & I went through the test. I have moderate sleep apnea and sleep with a CPAP machine.

I'm not going to lie to you when I went for the test I really couldn't sleep well because you have 10 million wires attached to you, on your head, around your body even attached to your leg. What made it worse was that the tech wouldn't let me fall asleep watching TV which is how I normally used to fall asleep. When I went back for the 2nd part of the test, where they determine the level you need, I had a doll of a technician and she let me fall asleep to tv and they got everything they needed.

Make sure he cuts his hair very short and for you it'll just take a couple of more shamppoing to take the stuff out of your hair. Just try to relax and don't fus on the wires. For me it was more about the tech not letting me fall asleep the way I usually slept than the wires.

Everything will be OK. Feel free to FM me with any questions.

That was the first tech that didn't let me...the 2nd tech when I went back did let me. Just make sure you tell the tech you need to fall asleep that way because if he/she doesn't they won't get a good reading.

Re: Sleep Apnea/Sleep Tests

i had this test in february. i hated every second of it. i think i maybe slept for a total of 3hrs NOT CONSECUTIVELY!!! i think i might have slept better if DH was with me, i have a hard time not sleeping with him on a normal day.

they hook all sorts of wires up to your whole body, head to toe. but they do let you keep the tv on all night which was a plus. thankfully i don't have sleep apnea.

where are you going for the test?

it's mind over matter i guess with all the wire. it's just very uncomfortable.

good luck!

DH had the tests done too. He fell asleep with the TV. He has apnea and uses a cpap when he remembers! Once he got used to sleeping with the machine he much nearly as tired as he used to be.

I'm going in for the sleep test the end of May. I'm definitely nervous but I know two people who have done it so that helps a little bit. I think I might take the day off from work the next day just in case. Even if I don't I'm going in late.
