Our anniversary isn't for another 7 months, but DH and I were talking with Travel Tom about a trip to Costa Rica and were going to book next week! Thank God we found out now, but I'm soooo mad/upset!
DH just texted me that they are firing someone at his job and they won't be replacing her, therefore, no one will be allowed vacations during the school year. A lil background-DH is a chef at a private school in NJ. He is laid off during the summer and works mid Aug-Mid June. He asked his boss when he is supposed to use his Vacation Days, and he said in the summer, BUT he gets laid off in the summer! Doesnt make ANY sense.
So now we cant go to Costa Rica!!
We both still have off though, from November 25th through the 29th for Thanksgiving break. He's going to see if he can take a personal day on the 30th so maybe we can go somewhere and still be away on our anniversary.
SO now I have to think of somewhere, kinda local, where we won't be spending two days traveling.
Obviously, I'm thinking the Caribbean: but we've been to Bahamas, PR, Cozumel, Jamaica, and Grand Cayman. So I want to go somewhere new and we were looking for AIs.
I was also thinking of going to Disney, eventhough we've already been there, but I've always wanted to go when it was decorated for Christmas.
Any suggestions?

That stinks that you have to replan everything!
We absolutely loved Sandals Antigua and booked it with Travel Tom. FM if you have any questions!

What about DR? Its only a 3 1/2 hour plan ride. Punta Cana is gorgeous and very affordable.

Thanks. I'm actually looking into that now. That was an option before we decided on Costa Rica

I would, But I heard you can't really leave the resort. Is that true? Because DH and I can't sit still, we need to explore, so going somewhere and lying on beach gets boring for us.

Ummm not too sure, DH and I are beach bums so when we went to Punta Cana we didn't even think to see anything that was outside. The same thing is said about Jamaica and I think DR is safer. (But I am probably biased )

How about the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island Florida? I heard there are OUTRAGEOUS rates right now. Under $200 a room per night. You fly into Jacksonville, FL and I've seen flights for less than $200 per person.
This sticks but good news. My friend just got back from Costa Rica and they have not had rain since Nov. Resorts (like 5 * ones too) are closing b/c of no water. She said it was horrible. Local? How about Washington DC!

Wow, I didnt hear about that! I didnt mean that local! We'll prob doing DC this summer when we go visit his family in VA. I mean local, like your not wasting a whole day on a place, like we would've going to CR.

We actually went there for part of our HM and we didnt like it all that much. We went in December though, its off season, and it was very dead with not much to do. But thanks for the suggestion. Before the HM, it was a place I've always wanted to go to.

Sorry didnt see that part! Yeah my friend said they were told not to shower one day. She stayed a really nice place too (not sure of name). They also were told not to flush the toilet. How about the Keys? Not sure how far or long that would take but I hear they are nice.

when we went to DR, we got a bit stir crazy. we aren't the types to really lay in one spot all day...it was very pretty just not much to do.
there's myrtle beach, south beach, aruba......

Thats how we get too, I wouldn't be able to do DR or Jamaica, where they say you HAVE to stay at the resort.
DH and I are looking into Disney/Universal since they are decorated for Christmas and I've always wanted to go for that. But also looking at Aruba.. Two totally different vacations, so we'll see
