I am home sick again today (no fever woohoo!) and I get a facebook IM from some kid I went to high shcool with. We were never good friends...he is just a FB friend ya know
Anyway, he says that he is stuck in London. He was mugged at gun point, has no cash/credit cards and that he is at a public library on the computer. He said he needs me to loan him cash. Like ***?! I asked if he went to the police...he said he did and they weren't helpful at all. Then kept askng for cash..I told him no...I did the right thing right?
It sounds like one of those price of nigeria emails you get! And why would he ask ME?! It's not like we are close friends?!

Yea that sounds really weird...why not go to your family or your close friends. you did the right thing...also he can go to the US Embassy in London and get help if it were true.
Sounds like a scam to me

Yes you did the right thing! I feel like I have heard this before from someone recently and its a huge scam I can't remember but it sounds so familiar!!! Don't give any information, in fact ignore him...and if he really is stuck over there for whatever reason he can find someone else to contact. Not your problem!

Sorry to crash....this same thing happened to my uncle, except they actually called him and pretended to be his son...saying he was in Montreal and needed $7000 wired to him because someone had mugged him...these scams are getting crazy these days

Re: So get this...
Def a scam and probably not your friend talking either.
The problem with FB and other sites like that is ALL the information out there!!
You did the right thing. If it were true, how could he get to a computer and not a phone to call someone? Makes no sense!! If this were to REALLY happen to me... the LAST thing I would be thinking about would be going online for FB messages!!!!!

Re: So get this...
My brother had someone hack in to his email account and was sending the same type of emails. I would try to tell the kid some how off of face book....

Re: So get this...
We had this happen with a client of ours..twice. We got an email saying basically the same thing and we called her home and her answering machine message says, 'Hi you have reached Jane and no I am not in the Phillipines, London, or any other country. Its a scam'

My cousin actually had joined up w/ match.com through facebook - I think it's like facebookmatch.com or something like that - she said she spoke with 6 guys online several times & 3 of them after 3 or 4 conversations started asking her for $$ - she was like...'excuse me??'
It's just really $ucky out there right now & when I hear stories like that it just makes me appreciate my DH all the more!

WOW that's ridiculous!!!
its an insane world out there. seems like more and more people are trying to scam and steal money from other people pockets instead of earning it themselfs!! makes me disgusted!!!
