So, we thought we found our dream house....

So, we thought we found our dream house....

Turns out we were wrong.

Seriously though, we went to see this gorgeous house in Medford on Wednesday night and we fell in love with it. Everything inside was redone, granite countertops in the kitchen, hardwood floors throughout, etc. So, we put in an offer with our realestate agent, got our prequal and everything was set to go.

The inpector went in yesterday, turned on the water, and the pipes all but exploded. The jackasses who WERE living there turned off the water in the Fall so all of the pipes froze in the winter. The owner said he's not going to fix it. So, we're not taking the house.

It really blows my mind how people could be SO stupid.

It's a Short Sale. So, I'm sure the owner doesn't really care.

hmmm i saw this on that millionaire real estate agents show once. Well it wasn't the pipes but something else with the house. The owner also said they wouldn't fix it, BUT the real estate agent was able to get the owner to come down in the price by a bit to make up for the cost the buyer would have to pay to fix the problem. The owner did come down in the price a little bit. So maybe you can try that and see if it works. Maybe he won't pay to fix the pipes but you can counter his offer now and say well now that there is a problem with the house, we'll still take it but put in a lower offer.

Did it ruin anything in the house. This happened to dh's families house in the poconos, this winter. The pipes burst but leaked through the house so they had to get quite a bit fixed. It came out to alot less than everybody thought it would. If nothing got ruined then would be even less. Also is the price of the house good, if its in better condition but lower price than many other homes you've seen, then might be worth it to pay to get that fixed if in the end you still are getting a good deal

I didn't go with the inspector, DH's parents did. They said when the inspector turned the water on to half pressure it was starting to flood the laundry room and water was coming out of the siding of the front of the house where the bathroom is. They said when they also took another look around they could see sagging in the walls where the water pipes are. So, IDK. This is where I'm having this internal dilemma. We could put in a lower offer and see if the bank will accept it, or, we could just walk away.

hmmm seems like there has been some damage to the house too bc of the pipes. You can maybe ask for an estimate to see how much this costs and also find out if they will go with a lower offer and see if its worth it to you.

Wow....I'm so sorry...but I am happy that you knew this BEFORE plunking down a ton of cash!!!! Imagine if you moved in and that had happened...and short sale or not, he will have a hard time selling it w/no working pipes!!! Who the h#ll wants to deal with that?!!!

Yeah, too much in taxes. If I could afford a tax bill like that I could also afford more of a house.
