Social Security Card Change - help!!

So i'm filling out that SS5 form and it says that I can either bring it to the Social Security Office (and the nearest one is about a 2 hour drive away - not happening) or I can mail it in. Yes- I want to mail it. But then it says on there:

'We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents'

What the hell? There's no way that i'm sending them my original marriage & drivers license, as well as my birth certificate. What do they expect people to do if you can't photocopy it???

Has anybody mailed in their info and got their new cards? Just wondering if you did a photocopy anyway (if it really matters). Because i can NOT make that trip down there. And if I have to, it's gonna be a long time before I get the chance - probably months even. And that's horrible.

Not to SS but I have mailed in my original marriage license and BC for my passport and it was fine. It's easy enough to get another one of each if need be

I mailed a color copy of my license. I had two copies of my birth cert since I thought I lost one copy awhile back and had gotten it replaced. So I sent an original bc and the original marriage cert. I really didnt want to bc I kept thinking that I would never get it back, but about two weeks later I got everything back with my new card.
