social security office mini vent and quick question

so i took off a day of work in hopes of doing ALL name changes today. well atleast i got the dmv stuff all done (after 3.5 hours of course) but anyway i thought it would be super easy to go right to the mineola ss office to change my card but they said i have to go to jamaica since im a queens resident.

this realllly scks considering i cant take off any more days of work and they close at 4 everyday and even there late night i cant make

anyway, so the question is, can i somehow change my ss card by mail and send copies of everything if they are notarized with my signature?

no, you must go in person. It s*cks for Brooklyn and Queens residence because they can't just go anywhere. i went to the one in Brooklyn on their thursday late night and it no joke took my 10 minutes. try to make the late night because if not you may be standing there for hours!!

do you have a nassau address you can send the card to? if you do you can go to mineola

Nope, you have to go in person and it has to be the Jamaica office. I took a day off and went to the one by my house in Rego Park and they told me the same thing. SO annoying!

Unfortunately you have to go in person, I went to the Jamaica office and it isnt that bad. Maybe you can go into work a little late one day and get to the Jamaica office before it opens so ur the first person on line.

I went at like 10 am last summer and the whole process....filling out app, waiting on line, etc. took less than an hour. And parking wasnt too bad at that time, They have meters everywhere so birng quarters-- youll have plenty of time to get it all done.

i went to jamaica before work

actually its really easy and seamless

go at 7am when they open...there is street parking right across the street

there may be a line, but tell the security u are therer for name change and they will let you in

go 2 second floor with your marraige license and ID

you should be done within 10-15 minutes

it was seriously the easiest thing i did...and i still got to work..>EARLY!!!!!

ETA: metered parking starts at 9....so if you go at 7am PARKING IS FREEEE

thanks guys...i work in commack, thats a huge part of the problem.

i guess if i woke up at 5:30 and got there, already parked and on line at 7am, then its doable and i might even get to work at 9:30.

the thing is i just feel like ive taken off so much time from work lately and job security isnt good so i get nervous asking for anything more.

thanks again. rita- im gonna fm you...what with if you have an address in another county. cuz if thats how it works, i can go to suffolk and have it mailed to my job.???
