I posted this on LIF... Thoughts? Yesterday on the subway, the train jerked forward and a young man reached out and grabbed my boob!!! Full on grab...and when it happened he looked right at me, and looked down and didn't say he was sorry or anything!!! I was horrified!!!! So my question is, when you grab or bump into someone on the subway, do you apologize??? I always do!!! Thoughts?

i alway apologize... but the subway seems to be this place where no holds barred, anythign goes and you get away with it... insanity!

I tend to apologize without thinking about what I'm saying because it's such a natural reaction. But afterwards I have to stop and think about whether it was really my fault!
There was one exception though. One time on a crowded subway during the summer I was standing up and this guy came and stood behind me. We were packed in like sardines as it was so I didn't think much of it at first, until he attempted full-on reach around...below the waist! I elbowed him as hard as I could and got off at the next stop. I showered like 12 times. It was awful.

Ugh, I loathe the A train b/c personal space just doesn't exist. I do always say excuse me or sorry though. He could've been mortified himself and not considerate enough to say sorry, or it could've been done on purpose. Some sick people get off on that. I had the unfortunate experience of sitting next to an older man on the LIRR who would 'fall asleep' and dig is elbow into my hip bone. I would squirm until he moved, even waking him up, but 5 mins later he would do it again. The same man sat next to me a 2nd time and did it again until finally I asked to move my seat. Well, he ended up moving too and I didn't realize until I was getting off the train, that he sat next to another young woman in one of the 2 seats (at this point train was basically empty) so he was definitely doing it on purpose. I think it's called frottage?

I always apologize. But as for grabbing your boob ? Might have been an accident or might have been on purpose using the movement of the train as an excuse. He should have apologized instead of just looking at his hand.
A couple of years ago I had a guy pinch my a$$, crowded train so I gave him the benefit of the doubt, maybe it was his briefcase etc. Turned around to look at him and he mumbled sorry. Pinched me a second time so I know it was no accident. I turned around and gave him a nice right hook across the jaw right before I got off the train.

I would have smacked the lil ba$tard so hard that his head would have spun... so i give u credit for not doing that But yes i always apologized if i accidentally grabbed someone. its the right thing to do it it was an accident ya know?!

when I reflexively grab for things to steady myself, I generally would not reach out first for someones breast

it's happened to me twice....i guess i look like an easy target since I'm a small asian girl. The first time was at the Yankees parade back in the 90's. It was packed and we were trying to push our way forward....there was a guy pushing the opposite way and as he passed me, he reached down and cupped my hoo haa. I just elbowed him in the chest as hard as I could. the people around us didn't see what he did, but saw me elbow him and were like, 'WOAH...did you see that? the girl just elbowed him'. He ran away as fast as he could.
The second time was when I was going down the stairs to the subway...same thing happened...a guy passed me and cupped me down there (i guess since i'm flat as a board that's the only thing they could think of grabbing). I grabbed his arm and pushed him into the wall and ran.
Whenever I think about it afterwards, I'm always shocked that I would react that way because who knows if they had other weapons on them. But in the moment, I just acted instinctively. I think it surprised both guys, which is why they didn't come after me.

I think that any person with manners would say they were sorry, especially if they 'accidentally' grabbed a 'private' part of yours. I definitely think he may have done it on purpose. This happened to me once when I was in CVS. I was walking around the corner of one of the aisles and a man was walking around the same corner towards me and we awkwardly bumped into one another because we didn't see each other. Only thing is he blatantly grabbed my boob when we bumped into each other...and it WAS NOT an accident! I started screaming at him in the middle of the store and people were all giving him dirty looks. It was a horrible experience and I felt extremely violated. He was a dirty, skeevy middle aged man who had nothing better to do on a weeknight!

I always apologize but your boob was grabbed i don't think that was an accident ~ there is a guy on the train (lirr)who always sits with me (he is annoying) I noticed recently when i was sleeping and woke up he was staring at me (it was so weird) and he touched my knee (a different time) and then one day i caught him touching the side of my arm like underneath by the boob area ~ he totally creaps me out! so now i dont sleep on the train when he sits near me and today i noticed his hands were wondering i told him to knock it off... why cant people keep there hands to them selves? (plus i always talk about my hubby 2 - weird)

i would but soooooo many people have no manners at all that is one of my biggest pet peeves- when people dont say sorry after bunping into you - that and when they dont say thank you when you hold the door for them - how rude!!!

ALWAYS APOLOGIZE!! Even if I dont actually make contact with someone, you know when you are walking and someone is walking towards you and you do the back and forth dance, i always say Im sorry b/c sometimes they or you have things in your arms and its hard to do that without walking into someone.

UM I agree..probably was. I take subways every day and I SWEAR i becoem the biggest b*tch out there which is tiring on the soul. but you have to be. I have gotten groped more times than I want to think about. Next time that happens, jerk your elbow up fast. you'll catch him in the face. Its priceless when they sputter.

gasping. That guy would not live to see the next stop. I have been known to have a big mouth, but I would def say something rude to him like 'EXCUSE YOU!' (and prob get my a$$ kicked)
