DH and I talked on Saturday and decided it would be best to get a new dog now instead of christmas because I'm having a hard time being home alone all the time. We went everywhere this weekend looking and finally found a dog! I'm picking him up tomorrow -- he's a 2 year old border collie with bright blue eyes. He's so calm and gentle and just absolutely perfect. DH fell in love with him right away...it took me a little while before I was sold only because he's not what I pictured us getting, but DH loved him so much and he's exactly what we wanted personality-wise. I'm driving 45 minutes to Alabama tomorrow afternoon to get him and I'll be home with him for 3 days before DH gets back from training, but im so excited to finally have someone home with me all week! I'll post pics as soon as I bring him home tomorrow. Wish us luck!!!
UPDATE: WE didnt pick up the dog yesterday -- I guess i got a little scared that it wasnt going to be the 'right' dog for us, so we didnt adopt him. I'm sort of feeling like we'll never find the right dog

Good Luck w/him Jenn. I used to have a Border Collie. They have great personalities. I love them.
i've heard they need a lot of excersize or they can get destructive luckily im home all day so i'll be taking him for lots of walks outside! but other than that, i've been hearing great things about them, so im so excited.
Congrats!! Yes, Border Collies require ALOT of maintenance...they are certainly not the kind of dog you can leave alone if you'll be at work all day....it's not fair to them because they are high energy. They are extremely intelligent...and not only require exercise...but to be 'challenged'...alot of play! I adopted one for my family when i still lived at home...she is now 13 and still wants to play all the time...but she is an incredible dog...not so good with strangers but she was also a rescue and we think abused...there are many sites about Border Collies as well as books...Fm if ya have any questions!! And good luck!!
I brought him home af ew hours ago and already i've taken him outside to play twice because he's got sooooo much energy! im sure he'll calm down a bit over the next few days though since today is a lot of newness for him

the place where he came from is like a foster home, so she allowed us to bring him home for a day and see if we wanted to adopt him. I had him here for a few hours, but we just felt like apartment-life wasnt inhis best interest because he's so enegetic.
