Sorry, long vent.....damn you FIL!

I originally planned to take MIL out for an hour or so for an early dinner Sunday at her favorite restaurant that she keeps asking us to take her to. She turns around and tells DH that she wants a bbq instead. Just me, DH, her, and FIL.

Fine, whatever, few hours wont kill me.

DH calls me on the phone at lunch and tells me 'don't get mad'. Of course I am like WTH IS GOING ON? He tells me that his father has invited HIS mother to the bbq as well.

Sounds harmless right?? Well, in a normal family where people like each other and get along it would be nice.

This woman hates EVERYONE. She didn't know me in the beginning and we were at a wedding and she saw me talking to someone she doesn't like, so she started talking crap about me! Not even knowing me yet! She didn't go to her own sons 50th birthday party. No call, no gift, no nothing, yet she cries about how no one wants to take her anywhere. She puts everyone down, and talks about everyone behind their backs.

My In laws take her out wherever she wants to go every year for Mother's Day, and she always turns around and complains to her other daughter about how she hated it or w/e. I mean, there is no pleasing her.

I am just sort of pissed that FIL invited her. It makes me think it's their way of getting out of taking her out.

Sorry this is long, just pissed. Even MIL is complaining about how it ruined her Mother's Day now. GRRRRR

Team up with MIL and ignore the old bat.
Spike her drinks.
Offer her cab fare to her daughter's house.

Must be a reason why the daughter doesn't have her on Mother's Day.

uck. I guess there's nothing you can really do about it, but yes I'd be annoyed too!!! I have quite the grandmother as well - I could go on and on, but I won't. lol. She's the same type though - just grumpy & mean and then complains when nobody comes to visit her. Umm... yeah, if you're gonna treat everybody like crap, why would we want to spend any real time with you???

It's just a couple hours tho, right? Hopefully the time goes fast and let's just pray that everybody is on their best behavior

I told DH to tell me what food she hates the most, so I can have a ton of it there hahaha

Thanks guys, hopefully she will only be there for a little bit.

not taking her side but it could be that she is craving attention and some people feel that the only way someone would pay them mind is they talk about and gossip about someone.. you know squeekie wheel gets the oil..

i feel bad, but i know how you feel.. take the high road.. she's old and its just a few hours..

I agree, in the beginning I felt bad and thought maybe she was just lonely, but she is constantly invited to things and never shows up or calls so I don't know how lonely or attention starved she is.

After hearing all the stories, and actually being involved in some drama with her I just prefer to stay away.
I will suck it up, I was just a little pissed b/c now MIL is pissed and she is going to make it even worse lol

Hmm, I like this option but it takes effort. Why don't all of you suggest to FIL that he take his mother out to lunch, just the two of them. Time together. Then all of you (grandmother excluded) go out to dinner later.
