Sorta TTC question

Sorta TTC question

If you aren't necessarily trying to conceive but you aren't being careful either, is it ok to drink?

DH and I are of the mind set if it helps, great! If it doesnt we are are ok with that for now, so we aren't using BC.

I don't drink often, once a month if that but I was wondering if its best to stop on the off chance one of his little swimmers is the Michael Phelps of sperm (minus the pot of course).

If the mom doesn't know she's prego could drinking once or twice harm the baby in the first couple of weeks?

its a weird ? i know. lmaoo

It's totally fine! I've done tons of research on this and asked my doctor..and the baby doesn't even share the mother's bloodstream until I think 5 weeks or so...at that point you usually know you are pregnant and will not be drinking anyway. I do not plan on doing ANYTHING different until I get a positive test!!

You dont share a bloodstream with the baby for a while so you would probably know beofre that happens.

Also, many people drink until they find out - A LOT and as long as you stop as soon as you find out its all good!

heck, our parents' generation was told not to drink just bc they 'may fall and hurt the baby'

ummmm do you know how many people conceive while they are under the influence of alcohol? my bet is A LOT

and so many people drink, smoke and eat things they shouldn't b/c they don't know they are pregnant until a few weeks later......some people don't find out until they are like 2 months sometimes!

im not saying you should do those things BUT most kids end up coming out fine

Re: Sorta TTC question

that was the first question i asked my dr after i found out i was pregnant. i conceived during the holidays, and had my fair share of wine in the 2 weeks before i found out, and the dr said that should be OK. if you read any books about pregnancy, they basically say the same thing. think about all the women who get pregnant unknowingly and drink during the first few weeks. as soon as you find out your pregnant, you have to stop then. a couple of drinks during those first couple weeks is OK.

You dont share a blood stream with the baby until about 6 weeks or so, so even if you drank in the first couple weeks its ok.

You shouldnt drop everything when you're TTC (or just not being careful lol) you can make some changes like maybe dieting, cutting out certain things like caffeine or stop smoking etc.
But you can continue living the way you were :)

Great question...thanks for the info ladies...,akes feel better knowing they dont share our bloodstream for 5 weeks...so IF there is an accident it's okay

I wouldn't drink to be on the safe side. From the time you concieve to the time you find out your pregnant could be anywhere from two to four weeks. I know some girls think it is ok, but I always feel like that is when the baby is doing the most important growing. All the cells coming together and such. I wouldn't drink if it were me. I just wouldn't want to take a chance with anything.

Sometimes it can take a long time to get PG
Sometimes up to a year, me personally i wouldn't change anything for that long, it wouldnt make any sense.

If someone wants to enjoy a drink they should be able if they are not pg or even if they are trying

Sometimes I get scared about that too and especially with me being a smoker. I wonder what if i get pregnant and dont know at first and im here smoking or go out and drink. But like other ladies have said, usually this can happen if maybe youre a few a weeks. By the next month hopefully you have a missed period and will realize.

BUT at the same time when it comes to smoking its better you stop before you get pregnant rather than getting pregnant and then quitting. The reason why is bc whenever you stop anything and especially something big like cigs, your body goes through shock and that can effect the baby if your body is going through shock from withdrawl of the nicotine.

I definitely want to quit soon bc i get scared of that. I want to have quit a while before i get pregnant

i wouldn't change

Personally I think we are the only country that frowns on drinking in general while pregnant. Most other countries a glass of wine and/or ONE beer is actually healthy for you therefore healthy for the baby. But I would stick with the guidelines US doctors give us.

i know its been on my mind lately, i guess thats why i get really scared. The alcohol thing i dont drink much plus like others said the baby doesnt share the same bloodline until weeks after. But to quit smoking can effect your baby.

Ive even thought of doing that laser theraphy to quit smoking.
