I had planned to go this yr but ended up changing...I would highly recommend Madrid and Barcelona since I have friends who have gone and rave about it.

Been to both Barcelona and Marbella. Both are beautiful places. I did more of the touristy thing in Barcelona. In Marbella I was there at a villa that my company owns for a conference.

Re: ~Spain~
I loved Madrid but had a friend whose dad lived there so he made dinner reservations for us and told us where to go that wasn't super-touristy. Of course, we still did the palace and the prado (which I didn't love) but also did some of the smaller lesser known museums and went to an amazing convent there! They only give tours in Spanish so we really couldn't understand anything but the artwork was WOW!!

If you like architecture, modern museums, fusiony restaurants and more the tourist thing try Barcelona; traditional museums and history, a little more conservative atmosphere try Mardrid; beaches, shopping, nightlife it's the Costa del Sol; or the history thing - start in Madrid and head south to places like Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada, Avila. Have a blast, you'll have fun no matter where you head.
