Spanish Airliner Crashes in Madrid- 149 dead

MADRID, Spain (Aug. 20) - A Spanish airliner bound for the Canary Islands crashed, burned and broke into pieces Wednesday while trying to take off from Madrid's Barajas airport, killing 149 people on board, officials said.
There were only 26 survivors in the mid-afternoon crash, a Spanish emergency official said.

Spanair Flight JK5022 - bound for the popular Canary Islands off the West African coast during the height of Europe's summer vacation season - sped off the end of the runway, crashed and broke into pieces, reports said.



We flew Spainair on our connecting flight from Madrid to Barcelona during our one year wedding anniversary in June..this makes me so sad...and scared to fly for all the families and lost ones.

i know, this is terrible. I was so sad when i read it. I get the CNN breaking news alerts, and i always dread them b/c they're always bad news, just like this one was.

i just saw this right now on the news, so tragic prayers to all their families

i took a small plane from barcelona to nice and i was so afraid. I dont mind planes but the small ones frighten me, this one seemed alot bigger but scary since we did this just a few months ago.

I flew iberia though and the small plane was iberia nostrum.

That is so sad .

We flew iberia nostrum fom Barcelona to Nice too b/c i dont think Spainair flys there. That plane ride was scary b/c it was so small! And it smelled horrible too. I dislike small planes with a passion.

It's so sad.....My family is all in Spain. Actuallymy aunt is a flight attendant for Iberia Airlines and is stationed in Madrid's Barajas airport. She said it's a ZOO over there right now!!!

yeah i was shaking. I think there were like 20 passengers on the plane. Luckily it was a nice calm day bc otherwise we would've had the worst turbulence you feel everything on those planes.

I hate this kind of stuff makes you realize

I heard about this earlier today. So sad. I don't even want to think about it either since DH and I are flying in less than 2 weeks.
