spin off to food shopping question

a lot of you are saying walbaums prices are too much.

so what is the best place (on average) to shop at? without having to compare all the circulars each week (yeah, i know thats probably the best approach)....which store tends to have the best/most reasonable prices for groceries/fish/meat/etc?

walbaums? stop and shop? pathmark? king kullen? ...any other place im not thinking of?

thanks!

Re: spin off to food shopping question

We do most of our shopping at Stop & Shop. I buy mostly store brand instead of name brand, and we have the rewards card so we get a lot of two-for deals. They also send me 5% off coupons in the mail pretty often.

If I'm in a pinch I also go to Best Yet. It's a smaller chain, but they have great fruits, veggies, and meats and are literally around the block from my house.

Re: spin off to food shopping question

I shop at waldbaums and stop and shop. Occassionally Best yet or IGA. My mom went to meat farms and got a nice roast there.

I find waldbaums and pathmark to be about the same (they are owned by the same company) I usually look to see who has what on sale and then figure out what im making. I divide up what I purchase.

While I may be fat, DH and I dont eat a lot. So if I buy a package of chicken and it has 4 cutlets in it I know that it feeds up twice. I got a great deal on boneless chicken thighs. Tonight we are having jerk chicken and tomorrow BBQ chicken.

Re: spin off to food shopping question

Stop & Shop for everything BUT produce...I am always disappointed by their produce.

I just shop locally for my fruit and veggies.

ETA...duh...I go to Trader Joe's every two weeks for specialty things!

Re: spin off to food shopping question

stop & shop has good prices

I usually buy all of our meat & chicken at costco and divide it up and freeze it and it lasts us anywhere to 2-3 months

Re: spin off to food shopping question

I love Stop and Shop...I buy the meat there too, but I'm mostly talking about ground chuck and stir-fry steak...if I'm going to make a nice, big meal I get my meat from Costco (which is also where we get all our chicken)

Re: spin off to food shopping question

I'll be the minority, and say that I usually find the stuff DH & I need on sale at Waldbaums or Pathmark.

I shop at those 2 places more often than Stop & Shop...

And i get my produce from Best Yet

Re: spin off to food shopping question

i liveeeeeeeeee to food shop although i have been AMAZZZZING and cut back a lot (saving on average 175$ a WEEK!)

i only buy stuff thats on sale (unless theres an interesting product thats new that i havee to try) and i do NOT stock up on things.

i find the more i have of an item, the less likely i am going to eat it. lets say sauce is 10 for $10. i'll only buy 2. if i buy 10.. they will sit in the pantry for yrs. GROSS

is hop at Waldbaums cuz its convenient. i do find stop & shop to be veryyyyyyy expensive.

and once every month and a half or so i'll go to bj's and get some meat to put in the freezer.
