Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

My favorite shower gift was a pewter peronalized video tape case. Even though we are getting DVD's I thought it was so cool, I had never seen anything like that before.

My favorite wedding gift was a locket from my sister with pics of us as kids.

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

For my shower, my mom made me a pillow out of the material from her own wedding gown - I was unbelieveably stunned! My sister also gave me a few original items - she had tshirts made up for DH and I that had our pictures on the front, and on the back, said Just Married, with our names and date. very cute.

Here's a pic of the pillow:

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

While I loved everything I got, the coolest thing came suprisingly from my uncle. In my grandmother's house, there was a large black and white picture of her and my grandfather on their wedding day. I always admired it but his family received it when everything was said and done after her passing. Anyway, he had bought a lennox frame and put the picture in it. My aunt gave it to me a the shower and I was brought to tears that they thought enough of me to give it to me.

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

Christine that locket sounds so adorable! How sweet of her

For my wedding, we mostly got cash which was much appreciated, but we also got a Snow Village church with bride and groom. I have a large collection of SV houses and LOVE this church - it's nice to have something to put out each Christmas that will always remind us of 2002

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

The best gift I recieved during everything was a necklace that belonged to my grandmother.

It was given to me at my shower, from my Aunt and Uncle in Cali. They sent it with a letter explaining the history behind it. My fathers family was very very poor, and after my grandfather died, my Uncle joined the Army, leaving my grandmother and father and aunts behind. While in the army, he was serving in Japan, and spent one afternoon off wandering some little shops. He spotted a silver necklace and had it sent to my grandmother. It was the first and only piece of jewlery she would ever own. The necklace was given to my other Aunt after my grandmother died. When that aunt passed, it was given back to my uncle, who then sent it to me as part of my gift. it's 53 years old, in perfect sparkling condition. I almost don't want to wear it!!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

My mom cross stitched a beautiful piece for us. I have it hanging in our living room, I will take a pic later.

My sister got pictures of us growing up and put them in a frame...she made me cry with that!!

Teri - my mom did something similiar. My MIL made our ring bearer pillow out of the train from my mom's wedding dress. I loved it!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

Besides the gift of our wedding from my parents, my favorite wedding gift was actually from my brother's girlfriend. It is the Bride's Tree Ornament Collection. I had seen these in a catalog and fell in love with them and secretly wished someone would come across them and buy them for us. I love the antique looking small unique ornament style. Here's the pic and descrption:

According to an old German tradition, a couple's Christmas tree should include these 12 ornaments to ensure happiness: Heart (symbolizing true love), Bird (joy), Pine Cone (fruitfulness), Santa (goodwill), Fish (Christ's blessing), House (protection), Rabbit (hope), Angel (God's guidance), Flower Basket (good wishes), Teapot (hospitality), Rose (affection), and Fruit Basket (generosity). Each is mouth-blown in northern Bavaria and fitted with the Star Cap, signature of Inge Glass, a family workshop of glass blowers now in its 15th generation. Created in antique molds, our ornaments might have graced your grandmother's Christmas tree.

I think it was the perfect idea for my christmas wedding!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

One of my favorite gifts was from my cousin. She had this trunk painted for us in our colors. I thought it was so cute thoughtful. We used it for our card holder for the wedding and now it holds lots of little memory stuff from the wedding!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

I also received the Bride's Tree Ornaments too for a Christmas present!

One of my favorite gifts at my shower was from DH's grandmother. She bought us a Nativity set of minitures from Precious Moments. She didn't even know that I wanted it! It almost brought me to tears.

My Dad's uncle and his wife who now live in Israel and who I haven’t seen in 12 years send us a beautiful silver menorah! It's gorgeous! I was so touched!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

I hate to be cheesy and sentimental, but my best gift of all time was a scrapbook that my bridesmaids made for me. Each girl put together a collage of our friendship, including pictures, old greeting cards, memories of vacations, etc., and together they made a few pages dedicated to the friendship Patrick and I share, which led to our marriage.

Some of the relationships were new and reflected the 'adult' me, and one very old friend had pictures of us together at just a few months old, and all the way up to us together on HER wedding day.

I will treasure that book FOREVER!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

We didn't receive many gifts because people gave us envelopes instead. But the best wedding gift is the Henckel's cutlery. We use them everyday and I love cooking more because of them!

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

My BF made me a quilt of all family and friend pics...she ironed them onto the quilt and sewed a different border on each pic. It was the most thoughtful and sentimental gift I got. I can't find the pic I have of it . I had it framed at Michaels....so I think tonight I'll take a pic and post it tomorrow. Describing it doesn't do it justice.

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

My grandma gave me a hankie that was given to her 72 years ago, at her wedding. It was beautiful.

DH's sister also gave me her money bag to use, and to pass on.

Re: SPIN ON GIFT THREAD, WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BEST

My mom was worried I wouldn't have a shower because my MOH is not the most organized, responsible person in the world so she went out and bought almost all the bedding and bathroom accessories we would need to get started. One night she invited Pat over, we had a nice dinner, and she presented us with all of the gifts. It was so sweet, thoughtful and generous of her I'll never forget it.

I did have a shower, after all; other BP came through.
