Spinning Class

Has anyone been to one? Do you really loose weight fro doing this? Will I have a heartattack and fall off my bike from it?

I go sometimes. I think it depends on the instructor.

I feel like if I do it, I'm gonna get winded really easily and have to stop. I don't want to be the only idiot in the class who can't keep up. I do the regular bike at the gym but nothing fast..

It's amazing and teachers generally let you start off slow. You still pedal the whole time, but you can sit whenever and keep your resistance low. I have sweat pouring off me when I leave spin. I am absolutely loosing weight from it. If I could just stop eating junk I would be dropping weight like crazy.

I considered myself to be in pretty good shape and couldn't do the spin class I tried. I can run on a treadmill or do the stiarmaster no problem, but my legs aren't into pedaling a bike in that capacity. I will say I really hated it but there are obviously people who love it and go all the time. It's worth giving it a shot to see how you like it. The one I went to was NOT easy!

Just go at your own pace when you need to. And bring LOTS of water!

I am a certified spin instructor and LOVE it. One of the reasons I love it so much is that you can really tailor it to fit your own fitness level. The instructor is there to just coach you through the class. He or she will tell you to speed up/slow down, increase/decrease resistance, stand or sit...whatever...but YOU ultimately decide what to do. My advice to new students at the first class is to just make it through. If that means sitting the entire time with light resistance pedaling slowly so be it. Always go at your own pace and listen to your body. Do what feels comfortable. The idea is to ENJOY it and come back so if you push too hard you won't do that!

Bring water, a towel and wear short pants (capris) or tight fittng shorts so that they don't ride up!

As for weight loss, it is a great cardio workout but unless your diet is in check weight loss is not guaranteed!

If you have any questions let me know!

Lauren, do you know of any gyms that you don't have to be a member but can take a spin class?

I want to know the same thing. My gym ***** and offers no classes, but in my area there is spinning studio. It's 15 dollars a class pay as you go, or you can buy a package. I'm looking for a place in SI or BK.

Lauren covered what I was going to say. The best part about spin is being able to go at your own level.

I just spun for the first time in a while the other day because I got a real bike and have been using that, and I still got a crazy work out...I love it.

Re: Spinning Class

I took Spin for the first time ever last weekend and I absolutely loved it. I'm far from being thin but I am fit I suppose. (If that makes any sense.) When you're first starting out the instructor will tell you to go at your own pace but you HAVE to pedal the entire time. It really is a fabulous workout.
